As Minority Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, MDCC commitment continues.

At Maria Droste Counseling Center, we're working to expand access to compassionate, culturally responsive mental health care for everyone. Through our clinical internship program, we're helping develop the next generation of culturally informed mental health professionals while partnering with communities to reduce barriers and improve access for those who have been historically underserved and marginalized.

Mental health equity isn't a monthly initiative—it's part of our mission, every day.

This Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we spotlight the legacy and the importance of representation in mental health care, including Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller. He was the first Black psychiatrist in the United States and a pioneer in Alzheimer's disease research. At a time when opportunities for Black physicians were severely limited, his groundbreaking work advanced our understanding of brain health and helped pave the way for future generations of mental health professionals.

Latino communities are incredibly diverse, yet many individuals face barriers to mental health care, including stigma, language differences, and limited access to culturally responsive services. Family, community, and spirituality can also play an important role in healing and recovery.

This Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, let's continue breaking down barriers and making mental health care more accessible for everyone.
