The "sword of discernment." Viveka. Discernment. I think of this as the sword of the goddess Kali, which represents higher knowledge and enlightenment. Kali cuts with discernment.

Sometimes a theme in a yoga class just lands. This was Dakini Jaeger's class on Sunday. She taught about the sword of discernment. She commented that we have so much sensory input - enviroment, people, cultural and societal norms - that too often we turn the sword against our Self, believing "the problem is me," and we begin cutting away at our own Self, losing our Self in the muddle.

I've done this. Have you?

And yet, if we can look ourside ourselves, with clear vision - the space between stimulus and response that allows for that vision to become clear - with discernent - we might find that there is something else, something external, that if we could see it clearly, slice intelligently, create a space between it, or possibly remove it, we will shift toward more integrity, more liberation and more freedom.

But first, we have to get quiet.

(Thank you Dakini!)

Diabetes is an inconvenient illness.

It doesn’t stop me from doing what I want but it sure can get in the way.

Yesterday as I walked into the studio ready to teach yoga, I felt it.

The woosh.
The world spin.
The crash.

Blood sugar at 68 and going down.

Inconvenient.

Because now while I start class and my students sit in sukasana to meditate and breathe, I have to eat.

And it is a life or death matter. Blood sugar going low is no joke and must be attended to. Immediately.

So I sit. Try to focus. Muddled thoughts. Feeling sweaty. Guide breathing. And eat. Sugar.

Sometimes I like the sugar. It’s the only time I eat it, when I crash. But this time I don’t want it. But I need it.

Diabetes is an inconvenience. To say the least.

Oh pardon me while I check my blood sugar. Inject myself with insulin before we eat. Eat a granola bar.

Sarvesham Shantir Bhavatu...
my presence creates peace.

I am not a Sanskrit scholar. I have only studied and recited these words enough times to have an embodied sense of them.

And they feel so very peaceful.

Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages. Words - Mantras - Prayers - like this one, have been practiced for thousands of years.

They are like a well-used worry-stone, worn down by millions of hearts, voices, bodies.

And the potency can be felt.

Listen to the shhhh-ing sounds, the aspirations, the whispers. Then FEEL them in your body.

This is Embodied Living.

Sarvesham Shantir Bhavatu.
My presence creates peace.

I am happy to announce new classes recorded for YogaDownload.com, being released this month!
Thank you to Rob at F4D Studios for doing the recording and photos!

This one is a 10-minute embodied meditation:
My presence (to my Self) creates peace.

I'm super excited to announce my return to teaching yoga - in the studio! ✨✨✨

It's been a year. It was a good haitus, some soul-searching, learning and growing, and I'm ready (and vaccinated).

After some deep seeking for the right place for me, I feel that I've landed where I belong, in a studio that has for a long time nurtured the traditions and teachings of yoga in the heart of Denver, and I am excited to join this community of dedicated teachers and wisdom-sharers.

Starting Saturday, May 1st, I will be teaching at the Yoga Center of Denver (formerly Iyengar Yoga Center).

✨ 2 Classes, both in-person and online:
✨ Saturdays 9-10:15
✨ Mondays 5:45-6:45

My classes will continue to offer precision alignment with the freedom of exploration that creates the Embodied Mindfulness experience, offering you tools to ride the roller-coaster of life better!

👇 Drop a GIF if you will join me - in the studio or online! I'd love to hear from you! 💜

This has been my experience. Often what lies beneath anger is something else... grief. And grief does not only come with loss of a loved one. It can be loss of identity, of power, of connection, of a dream or recognizing things aren’t as you imagined them to be.

Anger is triggered and often the first emotion. Many of us don’t know what to do with anger, so we suppress or deny it. We people please to avoid it.
