What if behavior isn’t the problem?
When a child refuses homework, melts down after school, argues over every transition, or seems to “shut down,” it’s easy to focus on the behavior itself. But behavior is often communication.
A child may be communicating:
“This feels too hard.”
“I don’t know what to do.”
“I’m overwhelmed.”
“I need more support.”
“I’m anxious.”
When we become curious about what behavior is telling us, we can respond in ways that build skills rather than simply managing behavior.
Join Thrive Collaborative this Fall for an upcoming parent workshop where we’ll explore how to understand behavior through a new lens and leave with practical tools you can use right away.
