It is so important to queue kids into their own regulation of hunger and fullness - WITHOUT the judgement.

The best way to start this - ask lots of questions! You might get some interesting answers!

One time I ask a little kid I was working with - “how do you know you’re full?” He replied - “It feels like I have a turtle in there” (pointing to his tummy) 🐢

Kiddos inherently have the ability to self-regulate their intake. Make sure to nurture and develop that skill as they grow 🌱

reminder that what you are doing is enough. Tackling diet culture, promoting body positivity, and nurturing your children’s positive relationships with food and health is no easy feat. You are a superhero for every effort you make, no matter how small.

And if you’re feeling completely overwhelmed by the challenge of it all, that is completely normal. You need support as you grow, just as your kiddos do. Here’s how I can help support you parents out there empower your children’s strong relationships with food, health, and self-image:

✨ Education: let’s identify where we have room to learn, and how you can use knowledge of nutrition to teach your kids powerful and positive habits
✨ Communication: I work with you to establish effective and healthy communication around food and health with yourself, your partner, your child, and those who are within your child’s bubble of influence
✨ Behavior and Language Modification: small changes can be impactful on your child’s perception of themselves and others. I created a mindset 180° in myself by helping reinforce my thoughts with actions - if I can do it, you can too.

DM me for more info! And don’t forget to save this mantra for later. You never know when you might need this positive reminder 😌

PART 1 : my least favorite diet words 🤬
Unhealthy and healthy really aren’t my favorite.

“We are going to eat healthy this week.”
“I only eat unhealthy foods on special occasions.”
“Is ____ healthy for me?”

What does healthy and unhealthy even mean? Healthy for your body? Mind? Soul? What if foods have some healthy and unhealthy qualities, what do you call it then?

Yes, you can use your common sense, but:
☝🏻over time, we learn to assign morality to food based on healthy vs unhealthy (food doesn’t have moral value)
✌🏻kids can’t always work through those grey areas, especially kids under 11. Make foods neutral and give them less charged descriptions. We can be more creative 💡

What are some other diet words you want me to cover? Comment below!

Hi, I’m Riley, a Registered Dietitian ✨ and Body Positivity Coach. Welcome to my page!

I have a vision for you all you parents out there. I envision a world where you don’t have to worry about your kiddo’s relationship with their food, health and self image. You can read all the parenting books out there, you can tell your kids they are perfect every day, but how can you be assured that they will be unaffected by the pressure of body image, size bias, and diet culture?

That’s why I am here, and why I use my expertise as a dietitian to help support parents and families empower their kids to have lifelong positive food and health relationships. As a kid, teenager, and young adult, I myself faced a ton of insecurity around food and self image. I spent years unlearning the negative mindsets around these things, so I know exactly what it takes to make the huge and necessary shift.

I want to help you and your family make the shift too. I try to speak directly to three main points of focus:

1. Education on the relationship between food, health, and self
2. Mindset and behavior shifts
3. Communication with yourself, your kids, and those within their bubble of influence

I’d love to say hello and invite you to join the community of parents who are feeling more empowered and more confident in their children’s future relationship with health and size. Where are you saying hello from? 🙋🏼‍♀️

A little mid-week mantra for you 🥰

Repeat after me, then say it again and again and again and again:

“My child’s relationship with their health and self-image can be directly impacted by my actions and words.”

Share this with your partner, your mom, your best friend, your kiddos school teacher, to everyone and anyone who influences your child. We, as adults, all have a direct impact on the way kids learn to associate with health and self-image ✨ Be a positive example!
