L5 S1 Microdisectomy - 5/8/25

07/30/2026

Glad my calcified hernia & deteriorating spine had such a youthful glow. Black don't crack but my spine surely did.

When my neurosurgeon finally cleared me to start physical therapy after my L5-S1 microdiscectomy, these were the very first exercises I was given!

Even now, at 10 months post-op, I still use these to gently stretch out my back and work on core strengthening. Recovery takes time, and you should never force a stretch. Let me know if these gentle movements help you out, and remember to take care of your spine! 🩻

NOTE: Footage was recorded September 10, 2025 when I was 4 months post op

Halloween is nothing when you’ve lived a nightmare. Had spine surgery in May so I couldn’t think of a better way to turn it on his head.

You know it’s frustrating when your pain management plan feels like a never-ending experiment! I’m a certified pharmacy technician, so I’m all too familiar with the meds they tried on me while I was waiting for surgery.

With all the strong opioids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, and muscle relaxants in the mix, it felt like they were just throwing darts at a board! Every time they handed me a new prescription, I was thinking, 'Do I really have to try another one?' But hey, if we’re going this route, let's keep them coming until we hit the jackpot!

So here I am, pulling meds out of my cabinet like it's a casino slot machine. 'Another one? Thank you!' I think a surgery consultation would just be easier, thanks!

Navigating nerve pain was a journey, but I found some silver linings along the way! Fortunately, I was approved for intermittent leave before my surgery, allowing me to attend all my physical therapy, pain management, and surgery consultation appointments without the fear of losing my job.

Thanks to my state’s Family and Medical Leave program, I had support during a challenging time, receiving pay that made up for what I missed while at work. After my surgery, I transitioned to continuous paid leave, which helped me focus on recovery without the added stress.

It’s essential to explore options like this if you’re dealing with spinal stenosis, sciatica, or other nerve issues. Advocate for yourself and prioritize your health—you deserve it!

After my microdiscectomy, I knew I had to break my old habit of sitting too long. That’s why I’ve been using the Radlove 59-Inch Large Electric Height Adjustable Desk! This desk has been a game changer for my recovery. With just the push of a button, I can switch between standing and sitting, keeping my core engaged and taking stretch breaks when I need them.

It’s made sedentary work like writing and editing for much more comfortable and beneficial for my back. If you’re looking to improve your workspace and support your spine health, I highly recommend giving this desk a try!

Stepping into a new chapter after my L5 S1 microdiscectomy! After months in flats due to sciatica, compression and nerve pain, I’m finally rocking my “stiletto” pumps again!

I’m celebrating ALL the milestones. A win is a win!

Did y’all get excited to even put on a little kitten heel when you could without pain?
