Recently Abbi told me she was feeling really hopeless before she starting working with me.

This, unfortunately, is not uncommon and something I hear often with clients and non clients.

They are spinning their wheels and feeling really frustrated not knowing what shifts they need to make to get to where they want to go.

This often leads to either:

👉🏻 Making way too many changes at once and seeking out unsustainable approaches

OR

👉🏻 Feeling paralyzed and making no changes at all and feeling like “things won’t ever change”

My approach with clients is always centered around education, accountability and being that sidekick through their journey to celebrate the wins but also help them course correct when challenges come up and they would have otherwise given up or turned to taking drastic and unnecessary approaches, keeping them stuck in the viscous cycle they are in.

Hearing testimonials like this is why I do what I do ❤️.

Shoutout to Sweet Potato Social and her team for helping me complete a big project for my 1:1 nutrition clients that I am SO excited to launch!

Moving forward all 1:1 nutrition coaching clients of mine will have access to an educational platform with continuing education that will help enhance their learning and support them on their journey!

This is something I’ve wanted to create for a while now and with the help and support of Taylor and her amazing team it’s now here.

Running a business is not a small undertaking. And I think it’s safe to say that thriving businesses and business owners need a village of supporters.

So a huge shoutout to Taylor Stonack for being one of my biggest fans and supporters from day one and always believing in my vision and what I do. I appreciate you more than you know! 🫶🏻

If you need social media help or support for your business I cannot recommend and their team enough!

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with an awesome group of women at Xcel’s wellness day.

We talked all about:

👉🏻 The importance of eating enough to support healthy hormones, energy and metabolism.

👉🏻 Supporting blood sugar balance by prioritizing breakfast and protein (if you know me you know I always encourage food before morning coffee 😉)

👉🏻 Minerals role in supporting our health and why magnesium and potassium are so important. (Yes most will feel better supplementing with magnesium long term and including more potassium rich foods in your diet is always a good idea?) Potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, banana, plantains, white beans, avocado, coconut water, etc.

Educating others on nutrition and getting to share what I’ve learned over the last decade from different certification, programs, courses, books, personal and clinical experience really lights me up and fills my cup.

If you’re interested in hosting a workshop or presentation for your employees, event or community, I’d love to connect!

“I feel like I should know how to do this” is a very common statement I get with new or perspective nutrition clients.

My response is generally something along the lines of, “why is that?” Between the amount of information we are bombarded with around nutrition (hello Netflix documentaries trying to have us all fearing meat), the government nutrition guidelines which will leave us all sick if we follow it, and everyone on social media now a nutrition expert.

You add that into our modern lifestyle it’s no wonder we are more confused and unhealthy as a society then ever before.

One of my FAVORITE parts about being a nutritionist is helping people learn to listen to and trust their body by fueling it properly and practicing better habits around eating, sleep, movement, etc.

Yes, you absolutely can get to a place where you can eat intuitively and don’t have to track your food to feel good and stay consistent. But you gotta spend time laying the groundwork and building your foundation. ❤️

Yes.. I’m calling you out. I also have been hearing this a lot from my new clients.

Our bodies are smart.

Cravings are our body’s way of communicating to us.

Sugar is quick energy. So it makes sense that your sugar cravings aka sweet tooth, is likely a result of a couple possible scenarios:

- Lack of overall calories needed to support YOUR body
- Inadequate protein intake
- Lack of carbs to support activity levels
- Under recovering
- Over exercising
- Lack of sleep
- Dehydration/lacking adequate minerals
- Skipping meals
- Constantly on the go, checking your phone, unable to sit still
- Imbalanced blood sugar (which could be stemming from any or all of the above)

All of the above can result in imbalanced cortisol levels. Too high or eventually too low, which can also be a driver of sugar cravings.

Sugar = quick energy and that’s what our body is looking for because we aren’t supporting it properly.

I had a great conversation with a client yesterday. When we first started working together, she craved something sweet after every meal.

Fast forward to now, she no longer craves that something sweet after meals.

Why?

Because we’ve established her body’s ideal range of calories and protein, she’s taking more rest days and she’s sleeping better.

If you find yourself having cravings for sugar all of the time. Time for an honest conversation with yourself about what your body is trying to communicate to you and what you aren’t giving it.

When I work 1:1 with my nutrition clients, one of my main goals is to help them become the expert on their own body. This allows them to understand what their cravings are trying to tell them.

This seemingly small habit can change the trajectory of your day.

If you are a habitual “snoozer” you are also a habitual procrastinator before your feet have even touched the ground for the first time that day.

The snooze button is giving you the illusion of more sleep when in reality it’s broken sleep and putting you at a great chance of starting your day in a rush and frenzy.

I am always talking with clients about time management because this has such a big impact on how our day plays out, if we feel like we “never have enough time”, and ultimately our outcomes.

Poor time management often leads to feeling burn out and lack of consistency.

Snoozing is procrastinating.

Ditch the snooze button for one week and see what it does for you.

Why you NEED retinol in your diet!

Over the past couple of years I have really been diving into better understanding how functions like iron and the thyroid work.

We are told..

👉🏻 If you have low iron just take an iron supplement
👉🏻 If you have a sluggish thyroid all you need is thyroid medication

What about supporting these function’s cofactors and actually correcting the imbalance, not just slapping a medication or supplement on it? Or figuring out why they are high or low in the first place?

Mother Nature is very smart and gave us many of the nutrients we need in whole nutrition dense foods. Retinol being one of them. Unfortunately many retinol containing foods got a bad wrap when we were still promoting saturated fat as harmful.

How many of you grew up eating liver? Probably not many. How many of your parents or grandparents did? My guess is a lot more can answer yes to the ladder.

Retinol from whole foods (not synthetic) is essential for supporting optimal health and many have gotten away from getting it in our diet.

Not quite there with eating liver? You can also take desiccated (dried) liver capsules and/or cod liver oil. *brand and quality matter for both of these.

Start by adding in pasture raised eggs to your diet, ditch the fake butter and get the real stuff, start incorporating high quality full fat diary (or address gut issues if you can’t tolerate dairy.)

Really want to dive in? Retinol status is checked via blood work and this is a marker I like to see for my clients as part of a bigger panel including copper, ciruloplasmin, iron markers, etc.

Reminder: this is not medical advice and meant for education purposes and encourage you to get curious about how to support your health!
