Suzanne Evans Morris, thank you for everything you did to lay the groundwork for me and for so many clinicians out there.

Your work is the foundation of so many of the skills I have today. Thank you for being such an incredible resource and for helping so many families through your research, your knowledge, and your dedication to this field.

I have three copies of your book. I use them often, and I reread them often—not because I’ve forgotten what’s in them, but because I want to continually maintain and grow my knowledge and skills. Your book was one of the biggest influences on my career and played such an important role in helping me find my way into feeding and swallowing. It gave me confidence in my skills when I was still learning and growing.

I am so incredibly grateful to you.

I’m here today researching, advocating, growing, presenting, teaching, and so much more because your work helped me get here. Every day, I have the privilege of helping families navigate feeding challenges, and I genuinely love what I do.

I hope you rest easy knowing that your work changed so many lives for the better. Your research, your dedication, and the foundation you built will continue to impact clinicians, patients, and families for generations to come.

We will continue learning. We will continue advocating. We will continue growing. And we will continue striving to be the very best clinicians we can be—to honor your memory and the incredible legacy you built for all of the patients and families out there facing feeding challenges.

Thank you, Suzanne Evans Morris. For everything. 🤍

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend, mentor, and pioneer in pediatric feeding, Suzanne Evans Morris.

Back in the office 💛 and feeling incredibly grateful.
Last week was an unexpected one for our family, and we’re so thankful for the patience, kindness, messages, check-ins, and support from our patients, families, friends, and loved ones while we navigated a medical emergency.
And then we came back to this wonderful surprise… Mindful Collective was nominated for Best in Wichita under Speech Therapy! 🎉
To whoever nominated us — thank you. Truly. Being recognized by the community we get to serve means so much.

This is my why. Helping a patient experience food in a low pressure environment and teaching them about how food has history. Teaching them to listen to their body and to feel safe and to feel like they can. I’m grateful to be a feeding therapist and I’m grateful to have amazing clients and their families who trust me to be a support for them. This week is Taste Around the World: China (school lunch edition). My patients get to learn how to use chopsticks and navigate different foods in a way that feels safe for them. I love what I do.

Play should be for everyone. 💙

One of my new favorite things to do is adapt plug-in toys so my patients can engage with them using minimal support. By adding switch access, a simple toy can become an opportunity to build independence, communication, cause-and-effect, motor skills, and confidence.

Accessibility isn’t about changing the child, it’s about changing the environment so every child has the opportunity to participate.

Every child deserves the chance to play.

Big moments start with one switch or maybe two 😉. 💜💜

With the AbleNet Switch Power Adapter, this patient is independently controlling real-life items like a fan and a lamp: building cause-and-effect, communication, choice-making, and independence through meaningful play.

When technology connects to everyday activities, learning becomes functional, motivating, and empowering.

What looks like “just” turning a light or fan on and off is actually practicing skills that can carry over into daily life. Stay tuned for next week when more of our toys come in 🫣🫣🫣👀👀👀

This week, we are exploring one of Canada’s most iconic comfort foods: poutine! Crispy fries, squeaky cheese curds, and savory gravy make for a fun opportunity to explore new flavors, textures, temperatures, and smells.

Trying foods from different cultures isn’t just about eating, it’s about building curiosity, flexibility, and confidence with new experiences. Every taste, lick, smell, or bite is a win.
