Mental health matters at every stage of life.

Our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program provides structured behavioral health support for teens who may need more than traditional outpatient care while remaining connected to home, school, and family.

Through evidence-based approaches our Adolescent IOP is dedicated to helping teens build healthier lives through:
- CBT & ACT skill development
- Positive coping skills
- Healthy socialization and peer support
- Mindfulness and emotional regulation
- Self-esteem and confidence building
- Improved emotional and physical wellness
- Developing purpose, goals, and resilience

Early support can make a meaningful difference for teens and families navigating mental health challenges.

This week in our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), we are focusing on Protective Factors - the healthy supports and life skills that help teens manage stress, build resilience, and improve emotional well-being.

Our adolescents are learning and strengthening:
💙 Self-esteem and confidence
💙 Healthy coping skills
💙 Socialization and communication skills
💙 Physical and emotional wellness
💙 Building a sense of purpose and identity
💙 CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) skills
💙 ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) skills
💙 Mindfulness and emotional regulation techniques

Adolescence can be challenging, and many teens struggle silently with anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, stress, peer conflict, and low self-worth. Early intervention and support can make a life-changing difference.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program provides a safe, supportive environment where adolescents can learn healthy tools, connect with peers, and develop the skills needed to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

If your adolescent is struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges, help is available.

Our program is currently accepting referrals and registrations for adolescents needing additional support and structure.

Today, we are honored to recognize Sharon A., LPN, at Oceans Behavioral Hospital DeRidder.

Sharon has been an LPN at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Outpatient Program for two years and is pursuing her Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degree while working full time. Since beginning her nursing career in 2023, she has been passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care and strives to go above and beyond for every patient she encounters.

Inspired by her grandmother, who was also an LPN, she chose nursing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. After spending her first year working in geriatrics, she transitioned into behavioral health and quickly discovered a passion for mental health care. Having personally struggled with mental health and the difficulty of speaking openly about it, she understands how important it is for patients to feel heard, supported, and safe throughout their healing journey.

She enjoys working with a wide variety of patients, learning from their experiences, and assisting them through their struggles while celebrating their progress throughout treatment. She values building trust with her patients and creating a safe environment for healing. Her goal is to continue advocating for patients and expanding access to compassionate psychiatric care as a future PMHNP.

Through her dedication to both her career and education, she continues to grow as a nurse while making a positive impact on the lives of those she cares for every day.

We are so thankful to work alongside you, Sharon. Thank you for all you do.

Today, we are proud to spotlight Tameka Babineaux for National Nurses Week, whose approach to nursing is centered on presence, kindness, and making sure each patient feels seen, heard and valued.

“To me, nursing is more than just a career; it's being there for people when they need support, comfort, and compassion the most. It's about providing patient-centered care while making the patient feel seen, heard, and valued.

I'm proud to be a nurse because the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference in someone's day. Being able to help patients through difficult times and seeing their progress is one of the most rewarding parts of this job.

Being a nurse at Oceans means being part of a team that genuinely cares about patients. It's important to work in an environment that demonstrates compassion, teamwork, and where we can truly help patients feel supported on their journey to healing.”

Thank you, Tameka, for the compassion and care you bring to your patients, your team and Oceans.

This National Nurses Week, we are proud to spotlight Gwen Thomason, LPN, who has been part of the Oceans team for 15 years.

Gwen began her career as a mental health technician before becoming an LPN, and throughout her time at Oceans, she has served in many roles - from med nurse and floor nurse to infection control, staffing support, phlebotomy, and now Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) nurse.

For Gwen, working in mental health care is about being present for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives.

“I feel like that is when I can really make a difference,” Gwen shared. “I try to gain their trust by being honest and up front with them. I implement structure, boundaries and dependability.”

Her current role as an IOP nurse has become one of her favorites because it allows her to spend more time building relationships, supporting treatment, and contributing to meaningful progress.

“We are able to bond and build trust, which helps the most in their treatment and well-being,” she shared.

Gwen also credits her work family for making her time at Oceans meaningful.

“I feel blessed to be in this field and have the opportunities that I have been given working here at Oceans,” Gwen said.

Thank you, Gwen, for the dedication, experience and heart you bring to your patients, your team, and Oceans.

For National Nurses Week, we’re recognizing the nurses whose dedication shapes the care experience across Oceans.

Today, we are proud to spotlight Gretchen Armstrong, whose approach to nursing is grounded in compassion, presence, and a deep commitment to serving others.

"Nursing is more than just a profession to me - it is my passion. It gives me the opportunity to give back for everything that has been given to me throughout my life. I feel truly honored to be a nurse. Being able to support others and know that I may have made a difference in someone’s life is incredibly rewarding.

Mental health is something every healthcare professional will encounter during their career, and I have been fortunate to witness firsthand how nursing can positively impact patients’ lives. Being present in the moment for my patients, actively listening to them, and providing compassionate care is what drives me every day.

Oceans' has given me the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in my patients’ lives. They have supported our community by recruiting individuals who share the same passion and goals that I do. They have also provided many of us with a platform to help change the way mental health is viewed within our communities and to advocate for compassionate, patient-centered care."

Thank you, Gretchen, for the compassion and dedication you bring to your work each day.
