September is Su***de Awareness Month, which may leave many questioning “what can I do to honor or support this month.” Given that thousands of individuals are impacted by su***de each year, it’s important to continue to bring awareness and also create environments where support is offered rather than shame.
Here are 5 ways that you can honor Su***de Awareness Month this month and support prevention moving forward:
✨Participate in Local Walks or take your own around campus.
✨Create a Messages of Hope wall that invites in kind and encouraging messages to your home or the larger campus environment.
✨Get QPR trained! We have many throughout the school year, with two occurring in September on the 10th and 17th from 4-5pm in JSC 350
✨Find a day to check on the people that you care about and that may be having a challenging time.
✨If you’re a part of a student organization or student led program or fraternity or sorority, host a You Belong Here Campaign.
Remember that you don’t have to wait until it gets worse to seek support. You can call or text 988 for immediate support, or access TimelyCare via the mobile App Store or TimelyCare.com/drake to talk to someone immediately.
