From struggling to walk to running, jumping, and lifting again.

Just 90 days ago, Brandon was dealing with so much pain and swelling in his big toe that even walking was difficult.

Working out was nearly impossible. He would have to take weeks off from the gym just to let the swelling go down.

Then he came to Regenexx Des Moines.

Within 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, Brandon was walking normally again. After about a month, he was mostly pain free.

And now, 90 days later?

He's back in the gym, lifting, running, jumping, and says he's about 95% back to his previous activity level.

Joint pain isn’t always in your knees, hips, or shoulders.

For Brandon, it was his big toe.

Years of arthritis and cartilage damage had caused significant swelling and discomfort. After hearing about Regenexx from a friend who had undergone a knee procedure, Brandon decided to explore whether regenerative treatment could help him too.

Following his injections, Brandon experienced some temporary discomfort and swelling, but he says that subsided after about a day.

His story is also an important reminder that regenerative treatments can be used for joints throughout the body, including some of the smaller joints that can have a big impact on how you move.

If arthritis or joint pain is slowing you down, find out what options may be available.

Ten weeks later, and she’s getting her shoulder back.

Before treatment, she couldn’t sleep on her left side.

She couldn’t comfortably raise her arm above her head.

She couldn’t reach her hand behind her back.

Now, just 10 weeks after her procedure, she can do all three.

She’s still working on regaining her full range of motion, but the progress has her feeling very positive about where she’s headed.

Sometimes recovery is measured by the simple things you haven’t been able to do in a long time.

Sleep comfortably. Reach overhead. Move without constantly thinking about your shoulder.

And she’s excited to see how much more progress is still ahead.

She was told she needed rotator cuff surgery.

So before going under the knife, she decided to explore another option.

After coming to Regenexx, her own blood was drawn and processed to concentrate the platelets, which were then precisely injected into the area being treated.

And she’ll be the first to admit it.

The injection hurt a little more than she expected.

But she says that discomfort was over within about an hour, and since then?

“Clear sailing.”

If you’ve been told you need rotator cuff surgery, it may be worth finding out whether you have other options first.

Who is actually evaluating you and performing your procedure?

At Regenexx, the answer is a physician.

Dr. Bergum is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or D.O. That means he is a fully licensed physician with medical training to diagnose conditions, develop treatment plans, and perform medical procedures.

And physician-led care is an important part of the Regenexx approach.

From your initial evaluation through your treatment, you are working directly with a physician who can thoroughly evaluate your condition and determine which options may be appropriate for you.

When you are trusting someone with your joints, spine, and ability to stay active, knowing who is providing your care matters.

“Is this actually real?”

It’s a question we hear, and it’s a fair one.

At Regenexx, we don’t ask patients to simply take our word for it.

The regenerative orthopedic procedures we use are grounded in published, peer-reviewed research on treatments like platelet rich plasma and bone marrow concentrate.

But research is only part of the story.

The Regenexx network has been tracking patient outcomes for years, including how much improvement patients report and how long those results last.

Why does that matter?

Because when you’re deciding what to do about chronic joint pain, you deserve more than promises. You deserve research, real-world data, and realistic expectations about what treatment may be able to do for you.

Be skeptical. Ask questions. Look at the research. Then make an informed decision.

Think Regenexx is completely out of pocket? Your initial evaluation may be covered by your insurance.

That evaluation is an important first step.

Dr. Bergum spends significant time thoroughly evaluating your joint, reviewing what is causing your pain, and determining which treatment options may actually make sense for you.

Only then do you discuss the cost of any recommended regenerative procedure.

And when comparing your options, it is worth looking at the whole picture. Depending on your deductible, copays, and insurance coverage, the out-of-pocket cost of surgery or other conventional treatments may be different than you expect.

Don't let assumptions about cost keep you from learning what your options are.

Come in. Get evaluated. Understand your choices. Then make an informed decision about what is right for you.

Steroid injections should not automatically be your first option for back pain.

While steroid injections are commonly used to provide temporary relief for certain spine conditions, Dr. Bergum encourages patients to understand the potential downsides and explore what other treatment options may be appropriate.

At Regenexx Des Moines, that can include regenerative spine procedures using platelet rich plasma prepared from your own blood.

The goal is not simply to cover up the pain.

It is to thoroughly evaluate what is causing your symptoms and determine whether a treatment designed to support the affected joints and tissues may be a better option for you.

Before your next injection, know your options and ask questions about the long-term plan for your back.
