Vet Tech Week Spotlight: Meet Maya, RVT, BS! ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’™

Maya has been part of the IVS team for almost 8 years! Her interest in veterinary medicine began at just 9 years old when she found a baby squirrel and brought it to Iowa State University's wildlife rehabilitation program. After getting a tour, following the squirrel's recovery, and witnessing its release back into the wild, she was hooked on animal science!

Maya loves putting together puzzle pieces of complicated cases and advocating for those who can't advocate for themselves. Maya's favorite patients are angry cats! She especially enjoys the challenge of winning over even the grumpiest feline patients and convincing them to love her. ๐Ÿ˜น

Pets at Home: Maya has 1 pittie named Gordie, 2 cats named Berlioz and Grizabella, and 8 chickens named Lucy, Pebbles, Goldie, Gail, Blue, Sooty, Disco, and Emma!

Outside of Work: Maya enjoys traveling with friends, attending music festivals, and cooking for her girlfriend.

Dream Vacation: Thailand

After nearly 8 years with IVS, Maya has become a familiar face to our team, as well as countless patients and their families. Her experience, problem-solving skills, compassion, and commitment to advocating for animals is invaluable to the care we provide!

Training the Next Generation of Veterinarians!

We're excited to highlight Kristianna Muller, a fourth-year veterinary student at Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, who recently participated in our preceptorship program!

During her time at IVS, Kristianna had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on surgical experience, assisting both Dr. Bartlett and Dr. Greenfield in two separate soft-tissue surgeries.

Our preceptorship program gives future veterinarians the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world emergency setting while learning alongside our experienced veterinary team.

We're proud to play a role in educating and inspiring the next generation of veterinarians!๐Ÿ’™

Meet Annie! ๐Ÿพ

This sweet 4-year-old Poodle mix found herself at IVS after ingesting pieces of her e-collar (cone) following an a**l gland removal procedure.

Dr. Bartlett initially attempted to retrieve the foreign material through endoscopy, successfully removing some of the pieces. However, when not all of the material could be retrieved, the decision was made to proceed with surgery.

Dr. Bartlett and the team took Annie to surgery, where a gastrotomy and enterotomy were performed to remove the remaining pieces of Annie's cone.

We're happy to report that Annie is back home with her family and recovering well following surgery! ๐Ÿ’™
