Here's an excerpt from a note Chris Maze, an oncology nurse on the inpatient floor at John Stoddard Cancer Center, received from a woman after her father passed.
"The first time dad had you as his nurse he told us how much he liked you. Your wit always brightened his day. As we were working to bring my dad home, your conversations with my mom made all the difference. You were so kind in sharing your expertise with us helping her know dad would make it home. He came home on a Saturday and died that night. He knew he was home. He knew we were all with him.
Though words are insufficient....I will never forget the kindness, the connection and candor you offered when it was needed the most.
Thank you so much for caring, for doing this difficult work so very well."
Chris's response after reading this note - "I'm not going to cure cancer, but if I can make a difference like that in someone's life, it makes it all worthwhile."
Thanks to all our nurses who do this difficult work so very well.
