July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the unique challenges many individuals from underserved communities face when seeking mental health care.

Mental health affects everyone, but barriers such as limited access to care, stigma, cultural differences, and systemic disparities can make it harder for some to get the support they deserve. By listening, learning, and encouraging open conversations, we can help create a future where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered to seek help.

No matter your background, you deserve compassionate, quality mental health care. We are here for you.

Last month we celebrated Healthcare Risk Management Week, and we could not let the occasion pass without highlighting our wonderful Director of Risk Management, Steve! 🌟

When asked to share a little about himself, Steve opened up about a life full of adventure, service, and growth:

"I grew up as a Navy brat and moved a total of 24 times in my life. I enlisted in the Air Force in 1995 and retired in 2015, serving as an air traffic controller, a military training leader, and a Health Services Manager. While on active duty, I became interested in Lean Six Sigma and earned my Green Belt in 2015, followed by my Black Belt in 2025. I find facilitating multi-disciplinary team Lean events incredibly rewarding, and I love teaching others about change management techniques and methodology."

"In my spare time, I enjoy writing screenplays and taking long walks on the beach with my wife. Recently, I have been working on a book based on a Leadership Momentum Model I developed after years of leading teams and studying what helps strong leaders grow and sustain momentum."

"I am very excited to say that I have finally found my forever home here at Hickory Trail Hospital, and I am happy to be here."

We are so grateful to have Steve leading our risk management efforts. Welcome home, Steve! πŸ™

April is National Minority Health Month, a time to recognize the importance of reducing health disparities and improving access to quality care in our community.

At Hickory Trail Hospital and Branches Dallas, we believe equitable mental health care matters. Cultural understanding, accessible services and early intervention all play an important role in improving outcomes for individuals and families.

Mental health challenges do not affect every community in the same way, and access to care should reflect that. This month, we’re highlighting the importance of culturally responsive treatment, community partnerships and reducing barriers to care.

To learn more, check out our recent blog post at https://bit.ly/4skUbNC.

Every April, National Minority Health Month invites us to pause and reflect on an important truth: access to quality health care is not experienced equally by everyone. For many individuals and families in minority communities, barriers such as stigma, cultural misunderstandings, limited resources,....
