🌿 MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY 🌿

💙 After school doesn’t have to be perfect.

Your child may come home tired, hungry, emotional, or overwhelmed after holding it together all day.

Instead of asking, “How was your day?” right away, try:

✨ “I’m happy to see you.”
✨ “You can take a break.”
✨ “Would you like a snack or some quiet time?”
✨ “Tell me about your day when you’re ready.”

Sometimes the best thing we can give our children after a long day is connection before correction.

Give them a safe place to decompress, reconnect, and simply be themselves. 🫶

A calm homecoming can make a big difference in how the rest of the evening feels.

🎒💛 Helping Kids With Back-to-School Anxiety

A new school year can bring big emotions — even for kids who usually love school.

Here are a few ways parents can help:

✨ Talk about their worries. Give them space to share without immediately trying to fix it.

✨ Practice the routine. Start adjusting bedtime, mornings, and school routines before the first day.

✨ Visit the school. Walk through the building, find their classroom, or practice the drop-off routine.

✨ Name and normalize their feelings. Try: “It makes sense that you feel nervous. New things can feel scary.”

✨ Focus on what they CAN control. Let them choose their backpack, outfit, lunch, or a special comfort item.

✨ Create a goodbye ritual. Keep goodbyes calm, confident, and consistent.

Most importantly, remind your child:

“You are safe. You are loved. You can handle hard things. And I’m here for you.” 💛

🌱 Connection and reassurance can help turn back-to-school worries into confidence.

🌼 Motivation Monday 🌼

Parenting and caregiving aren't about being perfect—they're about showing up with love, patience, and grace, even on the hard days.

If today feels overwhelming, remember this:
✨ The hugs you give matter.
✨ The time you spend listening matters.
✨ Your presence matters more than perfection.

"Let all that you do be done in love." — 1 Corinthians 16:14

Take a deep breath, celebrate the small wins, and give yourself the same compassion you give those you care for.

You've got this—and you don't have to do it alone. 💙
Compassion and Grace Family Counseling is here to provide a safe, compassionate space for children, individuals, and families to grow, heal, and find hope. 🤍

🤍 Therapeutic Benefits of Shaving Cream Sensory Play 🤍

Sometimes healing begins with something as simple as a tray of shaving cream.

For many children, sensory play provides a safe, non-threatening way to explore emotions, reduce stress, and build confidence. The soft, cool texture of shaving cream offers calming sensory input that can help children feel more regulated and engaged during therapy.

During shaving cream activities, children are developing skills such as:
🌿 Emotional regulation through calming sensory experiences
🧠 Increased focus and attention
💙 Healthy emotional expression through creative play
✋ Fine motor strength and coordination
💭 Problem-solving and flexible thinking
😊 Confidence as they explore without fear of making mistakes

In the therapy room, shaving cream can also be used to:
✨ Practice deep breathing while making slow, calming movements
✨ Draw or write feelings to encourage emotional expression
✨ Learn coping skills through playful activities
✨ Strengthen communication between therapist and child
✨ Create a relaxed environment where children feel safe to explore and grow

Play is a child's natural language, and sensory experiences like shaving cream allow therapists to meet children where they are—helping them build emotional resilience, confidence, and healthy coping skills one activity at a time.

💙 At Compassion and Grace Family Counseling, we believe healing doesn't always happen through words. Sometimes it happens through play, creativity, and connection.

Happy Motivation Monday! ✨
This week, remember that growth happens one small step at a time. Encourage your child to celebrate effort, not just outcomes. Every attempt builds confidence, resilience, and courage. 💛

This week’s challenge: Try something new, encourage a friend, or take one small step toward a goal.

✨ Meet the Counselor: Dr. Anne Sparks ✨

We are excited to introduce Dr. Anne Sparks, the owner and founder of Compassion & Grace Family Counseling.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Sparks has dedicated her career to helping children, teenagers, and families heal from life's challenges so they can become their best selves. Her passion is empowering individuals to overcome obstacles, develop healthy coping skills, and experience lasting emotional wellness.

Dr. Sparks earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University, her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Troy State University, and her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Sarasota. She has extensive training in identifying the underlying causes of emotional struggles and helping clients move from feeling stuck to living happier, healthier lives.

In 1997, Dr. Sparks was honored to be one of only 15 counselors in the state of Florida selected by Governor Jeb Bush to help privatize and reform the foster care system. She has also received specialized training through the Canadian Association of Play Therapy.

Using evidence-based approaches such as Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and a variety of individual and group counseling techniques, Dr. Sparks provides compassionate, solution-focused care designed to help clients begin healing from their very first session. She works closely with each individual and family to uncover the root of their concerns, develop a personalized treatment plan, and create meaningful, lasting change.

If you, your child, your family, or your marriage feels overwhelmed or hopeless, Dr. Sparks and the team at Compassion & Grace Family Counseling are here to help you begin your journey toward healing and hope.

💙 Healing begins with one conversation.
