Astrology was never meant to be read one piece at a time… Somewhere along the way, especially through the way astrology is often taught online, we learned to separate everything.
Saturn means restriction… Venus means love… Mercury retrograde means communication problems… A Full Moon means release… We learn the definition, find the placement, and try to make the definition fit. But astrology is much older, and much more layered, than that.
Some of the earliest foundations of Western astrology were built around relationship, condition and context. Not only what a planet means, but what it is doing, where it is moving, what it is touching, what part of the chart it is activating, and what else is happening around it.
Because Saturn is never just Saturn… A retrograde is never just a retrograde… A transit does not arrive in an empty room, It enters a chart already full of history, patterns, relationships and timing. So when someone says, “Saturn retrograde means revisiting boundaries,” well maybe…
But who’s Saturn?… Where is he moving?… What is he touching?… What has already been unfolding in that person’s life?… What else is happening in the sky at the same time?
This is where astrology moves from memorizing meanings to learning how to see! You begin noticing that one thing connects to another.
A transit connects to a conversation… A conversation connects to something that has been repeating for months… That repetition connects to something happening collectively… And suddenly you are no longer asking only “What does this mean?”… You are asking, “Why is this showing itself now?” And that question opens a very different door.
For those of us who naturally think in patterns, astrology can become almost impossible not to follow deeper. We do not always think in straight lines. We notice the thread, then the thread beneath that thread. We notice the atmosphere in a room and when the energy shifts. We notice repetition… We notice timing… We notice when seemingly unrelated things begin carrying the same underlying pattern.
Astrology gives us a language for investigating that. And this is also where our intuition belongs, not as a replacement for study. Because study gives us the language to Learn the planets… Learn the houses… Learn how they relate to one another… Learn the history… Learn the techniques. Then we pay attention… Read the room… Watch what repeats… Research what you do not understand and then return to the chart and ask WHY.
For me, this is where astrology becomes alive. The old systems give us structure. Intuition helps us notice how that structure is moving in real time. This makes me think that maybe learning astrology was never meant to be about remembering what every placement is supposed to mean… Maybe it is about becoming better at seeing relationship… Seeing pattern… Seeing timing and remaining curious long enough to notice the larger picture.
I’ve been asked often if I’ll be teaching again,
Astrology is one of the many topics I’m planning to bring back into the classroom. But after years of studying, teaching and living this work, I want to try something different. Less memorizing someone else’s script… more learning how to recognize the pattern for yourself.
For those of you who learn this way too… through connection, curiosity and nonlinear pattern thinking… stay tuned for October’s classes.💜
