Taking prevention out into the community!

Last week, NCADD brought AUD ( Alcohol Use Disorder) Prevention into the community—engaging youth and adults through conversation, interactive activities, education and resources.

Swipe through for a look at prevention in action. ➡️

We believe prevention can be informative, interactive and fun—and we’re excited to continue bringing this experience to communities across Detroit.

Prevention Pathways is officially on the move!

Today, NCADD-GDA brought our Prevention Pathways experience into the community for the finale of Occupy the Summer, an initiative of Mayor Mary Sheffield’s office and the City of Detroit.

This marked our first community outreach activation with our new Prevention Pathways experience—and what a great start.

From spinning the prevention wheel to conversations, educational resources and one-on-one engagement, we had the opportunity to meet people where they were and make prevention interactive, accessible and relevant.

And we’re just getting started.

Through Prevention Pathways, we’re taking prevention beyond our walls and directly into schools, recreation centers, neighborhoods, community organizations and events throughout Greater Detroit.

Awareness. Wellness. Choices. Community.

Stronger connections. Brighter futures.

Summer is a good time to invest in our youth.

NCADD – Greater Detroit Area was proud to partner with Energy Overflow and their Summer Discovery Program to bring prevention education and meaningful conversations to young people alongside their fun and creative environment.

Through partnerships like these, we’re able to help youth build healthy decision-making skills and creating stronger, healthier communities.

Interested in bringing the NCADD Prevention to your school, summer program, recreation center, or organization? We’d love to partner with you.

Last month, we kicked off Alcohol Awareness Month in community at Casablanca Dry—and what a powerful start it was.

Thank you to those who came out, shared their voice, and helped create a space for connection, conversation, and awareness. We are especially grateful to Casablanca Dry for partnering with us to host this meaningful, alcohol-free experience.

This event reminded us that community matters in prevention, and we look forward to growing this into an annual Alcohol Awareness Month kickoff for Detroit.

We’re continuing the work beyond April.

Last week, we came together in community to kick off Alcohol Awareness Month at Terry’s Casablanca Dry Bar.

From meaningful conversations and shared insight to laughter, mocktails, and connection, the evening was a reminder that prevention starts with community.

We were grateful to gather with partners and community members who are committed to creating space for honest dialogue around alcohol awareness and healthier choices.

And we’re just getting started.

👉 There’s still time to take the Alcohol-Free Weekend pledge for a weekend in April
👉 Interested in partnering with us? We’re continuing to build with organizations committed to prevention, education, and awareness around alcohol

Parents, this one is for you. 👀

As we continue through Alcohol Awareness Month, one of the most important prevention tools is paying attention early.

Sometimes the signs that a young person may be experimenting with alcohol—or feeling vulnerable to pressure—can show up in small ways first:
changes in mood, secrecy, slipping grades, new friend groups, unusual smells, or shifts in behavior.

These signs do not always mean alcohol use, but they are often an invitation to lean in with curiosity, conversation, and support.

The goal is not panic—it’s awareness.

💬 Start with a simple check-in:
“Is everything okay? I’ve noticed some changes and just wanted to talk.”

Early conversations can make all the difference.

👉 Save this post, share it with another parent, and visit ncadd-detroit.org for prevention resources and family support.

Did you Know ?

According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), over 23 million people over the age of 12 are addicted to alcohol and other drugs, which affects millions more people.

Early substance use significantly increases the risk of addiction later in life. Family history can also play a significant role in the possibility of the likelihood of addiction.

If you know someone struggling with addiction, reach out for support.
