On the morning of May 21, 2026, around 9:30 a.m., three Menomonee Falls Police officers arrived at a residence in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, to take a 13-year-old boy into custody as part of an ongoing investigation.
The boy, later identified by his family and attorney as Ronald Shabazz, came to the door. When officers told him they were taking him to the station for questioning, the situation quickly escalated.
According to the bodycam and a cell-phone video recorded by his sister, the teenager resisted, held onto the door, and began screaming. Officers took him to the ground on the front lawn.
One officer placed a hand near the boyβs shoulder and neck area while the others controlled his body. The boy can be heard yelling for them to get off him and insisting he had done nothing wrong.
Family members standing nearby can be heard telling the officers not to put their hands on his throat.
Attorney William Sulton, representing the family, called the force excessive.
He said a school resource officer from North Middle School was among the three officers, that the boyβs head was pressed into the ground, and that three grown men were not needed to restrain a 13-year-old who is about five feet tall and weighs around 100 pounds.
The family is demanding the officers be fired and plans to file a federal civil-rights lawsuit. Shabazz later said he had trouble breathing for a short time and that the emotional impact remains.
Menomonee Falls Police released the bodycam footage and stated that the boy became uncooperative, violently flailed, and resisted.
They said the force used was the minimum necessary to gain control and prevent injury, that officers remained calm and repeatedly asked for cooperation, and that their actions were βreasonable and justified.β
Details of the underlying investigation have not been released because the subject is a juvenile.
The video continues to circulate and has drawn strong reactions, with the family describing the encounter as traumatizing and the department standing by its officers. π¨π©
