As kids growing up in a dysfunctional home, we are often unaware of the trauma or chaos. We become focused on adapting to and even managing the dysfunction for the sake of safety and belonging. In adulthood, those learned behaviors have the chance to be seen in a different light, potentially leading to healing.

We invite you to read “The Child Who Learned to Survive” by Cheramy Thul at https://twloha.com/blog/the-child-who-learned-to-survive/.

Volatile relationships aren’t good for anyone.

But sometimes what a person calls “drama” is just one person bringing something up that feels difficult to the other.

If you grew up in a volatile family—one with constant conflict—you may confuse “drama” with “a person close to you attempting to discuss a need they have in the relationship” or “a person close to you is having a different opinion.”

Same thing if you grew up in a family in which you *never* saw issues brought up at all. Then everything else might seem like “drama.”

The problem with avoiding these conversations is that you seem easy to be with, but harder to know.

Except… you *aren’t* easy to be with because what goes unsaid often manifests as impatience, distance, scorekeeping, or a fight about something much smaller.

Have you experienced this? If so, has your definition of drama shifted?
