Ninety days is a structure, not a deadline.

You get to move at the pace your relationship actually needs. If one prompt takes a week, that's the work. If you need to go back to Week 1 because you weren't fully honest the first time, that's the work too.

Pausing isn't quitting. Slowing down isn't falling behind. Sitting with a question before you answer it is often where the real shift happens.

The couples who get the most out of Secure aren't the ones who finish fastest. They're the ones who let the workbook meet them where they actually are.

Take your time. Really.

Curious George goes everywhere I go.

He lives in my therapy bag, tucked between the things a couples therapist thinks he might need on a hard Tuesday afternoon.

I have all sorts of neat items in there. But George? George is the best one.

Here's what he's for.

When a couple gets judgmental with each other in my office, when the tone sharpens and one of them starts assuming they already know what the other meant, I toss George to the judgy one and say, "Let's try that again."

Something happens in that moment.

The stuffed monkey lands in their lap and the whole room softens. There's a little levity. A breath. A chance to start the sentence over.

But it isn't really the monkey doing the work.

It's the shift George asks for.

Alexander den Heijer said, "Curiosity is the great eliminator of judgment."

That's the whole thing.

Judgment says, I already know why you did that.

Curiosity says, tell me more. Help me understand what that was like for you.

One closes the door. The other leaves it open.

Most couples don't need to agree more. They need to assume less, and ask more.

You can do this without a monkey, of course.

The next time you feel the judgment rising, the next time you're sure you already know your partner's motive, try the question instead of the verdict.

Curiosity over assumption. Every time it fits.

We weren't fighting. That's what made it so hard to name.

I was editing myself every day. Leaving out the feelings that felt too risky. Softening the needs I thought would be too much. I called it keeping the peace.

It wasn't peace. It was the slow absence of emotional safety, and I didn't have a word for it until I read the five signs in the Secure workbook.

Three of them hit me the hardest, the ones I didn't know I was missing. Swipe through if any of this sounds familiar.

Emotional safety isn't about never fighting. It's about knowing you can be fully yourself, and still be loved.

4am.

That's when the coffee goes on in our house.

Not because we love the hour. Because it's the only quiet we get.

Two schedules that don't line up. Days that start early and end late. A season where, if we left connection to chance, we'd go weeks brushing past each other in the kitchen.

So we protect the coffee.

It wasn't romantic to begin with. Sometimes we aren't well-rested. The house is dark. But for one hour, we're within reach of each other before the world starts pulling.

Here's the part that took us a while to learn.

The smallest ritual becomes the strongest anchor.

Not the anniversary trip. Not the big talk you keep meaning to have. The tiny, repeatable thing you do when life is loudest.

Rituals aren't about the activity. They're about the return. A standing appointment that says, whatever else is happening, I still come back to you.

We didn't choose 4am because it's convenient. It's the opposite of convenient. We chose it because the connection is worth more than the sleep, in this stretch of life more than ever.

If your schedules feel like two trains passing, you don't need more hours. You need one small thing you both keep.

Ours is coffee in the dark.

What's yours?

Safety isn't built in grand gestures.

It's built in the smaller moments. The ones no one sees. A question asked without an agenda. An answer given without a defense.

Secure doesn't start with a breakthrough. It starts with one honest question on day one, and another the next, and another the day after that. Ninety days of small acts of showing up.

You build it slowly, one honest moment at a time. By risking vulnerability. By proving, through experience, that it is safe to be fully seen.

That's the whole practice. Quiet, steady, and yours to keep.

Some couples come to us when things are loud. The same argument, the same Tuesday, the same distance across the kitchen table.

Others come quietly. Things are fine, and they want them to be more than fine.

This is for both of them.

I'm glad to share that my colleague Heather Schnobelen and I will be leading the Onsite Coupleship Experience.

It's a weekend built for couples who want to grow together. Not through theory. Through practice.

Experiential learning. Hands-on tools. Psychoeducation you can actually use on the drive home.

The kind of work that usually gets scheduled one hour at a time, held instead over a weekend, side by side with your partner.

This is for anyone in a committed relationship. The ones who feel disconnected. The ones who feel steady and want to deepen it. The ones who just want a little more warmth, curiosity, and courage in the room.

You don't come to fix each other. You come to build something, together.

Most couples who pick up Secure aren't on the edge of a breakup.

They're doing fine. And somewhere underneath the fine, they know something is quietly missing.

There's a myth that workbooks are for couples in crisis. In our experience, it's the opposite. Couples in crisis need crisis support, a therapist in the room, a way to stop the bleeding. That's not what 90 days of structured reflection is built for.

Secure is built for the couples who are stable enough to sit down together on a Sunday morning and actually do the work. Curious enough to want more than "we're good." Honest enough to admit that "good but a little disconnected" is still worth paying attention to.

The readers who tell us Secure changed something for them almost always describe their relationship the same way going in: not broken, just quieter than it used to be. They didn't wait for things to get loud. They went deeper first.

If that sounds like where you and your partner are right now, that's exactly who this workbook was written for.

Mr. Bean, our dog, is curled into a chair that barely fits him.

Head propped on a cushion. Legs spilling over the edge.

The chair is too small. He rests anyway.

He doesn't wait until there's enough room. He makes room.

I keep thinking about that.

Most of us treat rest like a reward we haven't earned yet. Something we'll get to once the list is short enough, the week is calm enough, the room is big enough.

But the room is never big enough.

Life stays full. Too full, too tight, too stretched.

And so rest keeps getting pushed to the far edge of the calendar, where it quietly never arrives.

Rest isn't the thing you do when the work is done. Rest is part of the work.

You can't repair from empty. You can't be curious, or patient, or warm when you're running on fumes.

Rest is not a waste of time. It's intentional healing.

So maybe the practice this week isn't finding the perfect moment.

Maybe it's doing what Mr. Bean does.

You climb into the too-small chair. You put your head down. You rest anyway.

62% of people who feel lonely are in a committed relationship.

Not single. Not isolated. In a partnership. Sharing a home, a bed, maybe kids and a mortgage. And still feeling unseen.

That kind of loneliness is a specific pain. You're not alone, but you feel alone. And most of the time, it didn't happen in one big moment.

It got built slowly. Conversations that stayed on the surface. Feelings that didn't feel safe to say out loud. Small ruptures that never quite got repaired.

Walls like that come down the same way they went up. One honest moment at a time.

That's what Secure is built for. 90 days of guided reflection, together, designed to help couples find their way back to each other. Available on Amazon.

42 pastors from all over the country have converged this week at WinShape Retreats in Rome, GA.

They came to do their healing work.

The Pastors Living Centered Program, sponsored by and run through , gathers spiritual leaders for something we don't schedule often enough: time to tend to themselves.

We tend to think of a pastor as the one who holds everyone else.

The one people call at 9pm on a Tuesday.

The one who sits with a grieving family, then drives home to a kitchen table of their own.

But a leader can only pour from what's actually in them.

Healthier pastors means healthier organizations. Healthier organizations means healthier communities.

The work starts with the person, not the platform.

I get to lead them in morning meditation and daily lectures.

Then they move into the group room for their daily group work, where the real work happens.

Grateful to be back in the room, leading leaders.
