“I wouldn’t be here without the folks at this ER."

When Thomas Covey began experiencing unusual chest tightness, he knew he shouldn’t ignore it. He thought of his neighbor, Emily Henry, a nurse at TriStar Lovers Lane ER.

There was a problem: Thomas didn’t know where the ER was, so he called his neighbor.

Hundreds of miles away at her bridal shower, Emily gave Thomas the address. That phone call launched Thomas's journey through three TriStar Health facilities, ultimately saving his life.

Thomas received emergency care at TriStar Lovers Lane ER before being transferred to TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital for advanced cardiac care. When physicians determined he needed emergency heart surgery, his care team coordinated a transfer to TriStar Centennial Medical Center for a quadruple bypass surgery.

After recovering, Thomas returned to TriStar Lovers Lane ER with family and treats in hand to say thank you! ❤

In Thomas's time of need TriStar Health's connected system of care was ready and equipped to respond with lifesaving emergency care.

With participation from all of our Nashville-area TriStar Health facilities, our teams raised more than $110,000 for the American Heart Association — helping support its work to improve cardiovascular health and save lives.

A special shoutout to our colleagues at TriStar Horizon Medical Center, who brought the celebration home to Dickson by hosting their first Heart Walk at the hospital. We’re proud to see our colleagues showing up for healthier communities across Middle Tennessee.

"I am here because of what your team did."

In June, Pastor Michael Peasall arrived at the TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center emergency department experiencing a massive heart attack. His care team quickly recognized how serious his condition was and rushed him to the cardiac cath lab, where they discovered five blocked coronary arteries.

Every minute mattered. Michael received an emergency balloon angioplasty to restore blood flow and stabilize, giving him the time he needed to safely reach TriStar Centennial Medical Center for quintuple bypass surgery.

Two weeks later, Michael returned to TriStar Hendersonville to personally thank the cath lab team.

“Today are we lucky to be here because of the people who step up when we need them the most."

Nearly three months after a devastating taco truck explosion changed their lives, Tim and Tiffany McPherson returned to thank many of the people who helped care for them.

On June 4, the TNT Tacos owners were seriously injured when their food truck exploded. Both suffered severe burns and were airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where their recovery included surgery and specialized burn care.

Their reunion at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County brought together first responders, healthcare professionals and members of the teams involved in their care — an example of the collaboration that helps connect patients with the right care when every moment matters.

The gathering was especially meaningful as TriStar Skyline celebrates five years of specialized burn care. Supported by a state-designated Level I Trauma Center, the multidisciplinary burn program brings together specialists who support patients across Middle Tennessee through treatment and recovery.

For Tim and Tiffany, the day was an opportunity to reconnect with and thank many of the people who played a role in their journey. 💙

According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is a leading cause of death in the U.S. When it’s found at an early stage before it has spread, the 5-year relative survival rate is about 90%.

We are so excited that Dr. Matthew Jones, general surgery, has joined Natchez Medical Associates!

Dr. Jones went into surgery after his father dealt with significant illness throughout high school and college where he was blessed to work with talented surgeons who taught him the value of compassionate and skilled care. Dr. Jones believes that to be a good surgeon, one must first excel at being a good doctor.

Dr. Jones has special interests in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and has an “all-in” approach to robotics, meaning a majority of his cases can be done in a minimally invasive fashion. He prides himself on being a true general surgeon performing colorectal cancer, breast, thyroid, hernia, biliary, breast and everything in between.

In recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, our very own Dr. Mohsen Hasanin, gastroenterologist, recently shared an important message around preventative screenings for colon cancer. He emphasizes the new guidelines for starting screenings at age 45 and encourages you to ask your primary care physician or call our office (615.441.4503).

Dr. Hasanin stated, “As a gastroenterologist, I believe a colonoscopy is the best way to get screened for colon cancer because we can find precancerous polyps and we can remove them at the same time."

This time of year, we all love enjoying our favorite holiday meals and treats. The holiday season can trigger that unwelcome burning sensation in your chest: heartburn. Occasional heartburn, though it may be uncomfortable, is common and does not require any treatment. If heartburn occurs more than twice a week, it may be time to call your physician.
