From Callao to New York Harbor and now Miami —a historic voyage celebrating friendship, diplomacy and opportunity. 🇺🇸🇵🇪

United HomeCare® President & CEO Carlos L. Martinez and his wife, Gretta, were honored to be among the special guests welcoming the Peruvian Navy Training Ship B.A.P. “Unión” to Maurice A. Ferré Park in Miami, its final U.S. port of call during the ship’s 2026 VIEX Foreign Training Cruise.

The majestic four-masted, steel-hulled Class A barque arrived in Miami following its visit to New York Harbor in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, bringing together government, diplomatic and business leaders for an extraordinary gathering centered on the theme “Peru is Open for Business.”

Carlos and Gretta joined the Honorable U.S. Ambassador to Peru Bernie Navarro, the officers and crew of the B.A.P. “Unión,” public officials, and representatives from some of South Florida’s leading business organizations, including the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, CAMACOL, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

More than a ceremonial port visit, the occasion celebrated two centuries of friendship between the United States and Peru and the nations’ longstanding commitment to trade, security cooperation, peaceful collaboration and shared democratic values. Since his Senate confirmation on December 18, 2025, Ambassador Navarro has worked to further strengthen ties between the two countries and advance the Administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic partnerships throughout the Western Hemisphere.

During the event on what he called “Peru’s floating embassy,” Ambassador Navarro announced three new trade missions between Miami and Peru.

United HomeCare® is proud to see its leadership represented at gatherings that strengthen the international relationships, civic partnerships and community connections that make South Florida such a dynamic crossroads of the Americas.

Day 2 at the 2026 Florida Conference on Aging | A Critical Update from Washington, D.C.

An important step has been taken to strengthen services for older adults across our nation: Florida Senators Rick Scott, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, and Ashley Moody have co-sponsored the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act (OAA). The legislation has passed the U.S. Senate and now awaits action by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Older Americans Act is the foundation for vital programs that help adults age 60+ remain healthy, independent, and living with dignity in their own homes and communities.

Carlos L. Martinez, United HomeCare® President and CEO and President-Elect of the Florida Council on Aging, calls for decisive action: “As Florida's older adult population continues to grow, reauthorizing the OAA is more important than ever. United HomeCare® joins aging advocates across the state and the nation in encouraging members of the U.S. House of Representatives to support the timely reauthorization of this essential legislation and help ensure these critical services remain available for the millions of older Americans who depend on them.”

Tomorrow's Leaders. Today's Difference.
At United HomeCare®, we're proud to celebrate the remarkable young people who are helping shape a more compassionate future.

As a Marketing & Public Relations Intern, Bianca Maria Ceballos exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose. Through her work alongside AVUS Connect®, Bianca helps coordinate community outreach initiatives, such as our annual hurricane preparedness meal kits in partnership with Florida Power & Light (FPL) and senior center entertainment visits. She mentors student volunteers, supports technology programs for older adults, and fosters meaningful intergenerational connections that reduce loneliness and strengthen our community.

Bianca’s passion for service extends far beyond the office. From mobilizing more than 100 student volunteers and receiving the President's Volunteer Service Award to launching storytelling initiatives that honor older adults (watch her tribute to the late Miami trailblazer, Thelma Gibson, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37DHrXnLgD8&t=5s), Bianca reminds us that age is never a barrier to making a lasting difference.

At United HomeCare and AVUS Connect, we believe that leadership begins with service… because when bright young members of our community invest their time, talents, and hearts in serving older adults, everyone benefits.

Thank you, Bianca, for inspiring the next generation to lead with compassion, purpose, and action!

Together, we're connecting generations and changing lives.

Connecting Seniors to the Resources They Deserve.
Today, United HomeCare® was proud to participate as a sponsor and exhibitor at the Community Resource Fair hosted by City of Miami Commissioner Rolando Escalona, in collaboration with State Senator Ileana Garcia and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Vicki L. Lopez. The event was held at the José Martí Park gymnasium.

Led by President & CEO Carlos L. Martinez, working alongside his wife, Gretta Martinez, members of the United HomeCare team had the opportunity to meet with residents, answer questions, and share information about the many programs and services that help older adults remain safe, healthy, and independent in the comfort of their own homes.

Community events like these strengthen the connections between local organizations and the people they serve, ensuring that seniors and their families know where to turn for trusted support when they need it most.

Thank you to the organizers for bringing together so many valuable community partners in one place to serve our neighbors.

Together, we're building a stronger, healthier Miami—one connection at a time.
