ACOM proudly remembers the birthday of Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, who founded osteopathic medicine.

Dr. Still founded the science of osteopathic medicine on the holistic philosophy that every individual is a unique combination of body, mind, and spirit. That understanding is the cornerstone of ACOM’s teaching.

Dr. Still remained active in osteopathic medicine almost to the end of his life. He would be proud of the growth of osteopathic medical schools since his death more than a century ago. We at ACOM proudly carry on the osteopathic medicine tradition as students, faculty and staff members as we are “Inspiring Medicine through Human Touch”.

Happy Birthday Dr. Still! His legacy lives on through the dedicated medical students, faculty and staff of ACOM.

Let’s take a look back at Assignment Day earlier this year, when our then OMS-II students learned which core sites they would call home for the next year of their medical education.

This week, those plans become reality as our OMS-III students begin clinical rotations at core sites across the Southeast. Through hands-on training, mentorship from experienced physicians, and real patient interaction, they’ll continue building the knowledge and skills needed to become compassionate osteopathic physicians.

Congratulations, Class of 2028! We’re excited to see all you’ll accomplish during this next chapter. 💙

The First Patient Memorial Service is a heartfelt tribute to the generous individuals who chose to donate their bodies to the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Willed Body Program. Through this extraordinary final gift, they provide our future physicians with an invaluable opportunity to learn, grow, and become better doctors.

As you hear from our students, we hope you feel the lasting impact your loved one’s generosity has had, and will continue to have, on their journey to becoming compassionate, skilled physicians.

Today, we honor those whose legacy lives on through education, service, and the countless lives they will touch for generations to come.
