ROOM: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action

ROOM: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action This is ROOM’s view: Strengthening the continuity of our community by sharing meaning where we find it is analytic action.

06/09/2026

"My hope is that the reader doesn't just move through the issue efficiently, but rather thinks with the page, allowing the visual structure to guide their own internal associations."

— ROOM Creative Director Boyd Delancey

That spirit has guided ROOM for the past 10 years.

Through writing, art, psychoanalysis, and design, ROOM has sought to create experiences that encourage reflection, dialogue, and discovery rather than quick consumption.

Join us at ROOM's 10th Anniversary Gala as we celebrate the community that helped transform a small publication into a global platform reaching readers in more than 160 countries.

As we approach our 10th anniversary Gala celebration, we want to share something we are especially excited about.

On Wednesday, July 22, the evening before the Gala, ROOM will host an in-person event at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) in New York City. It is a rare opportunity to gather in the same room, to mark this milestone together, and to spend an evening in conversation with this year's Coline Covington Award recipient, Professor Mark Solms. Tickets are available and presented upon registering for the ROOM 10th Anniversary Gala at the link below.

What does it take to build peace across irreconcilable divides? In this panel conversation, psychoanalysts Karim Dajani and Eyal Rozmarin are joined by Lord John Alderdice, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and architect of the Good Friday Agreement.

Drawing on his experience in Northern Ireland, Lord Alderdice offers a roadmap. Together, the three address questions of asymmetry, the resistance of psychoanalytic institutions to acknowledging political violence, and the challenge of engaging emotional actors with reason. What emerges is less a debate than a working session between people who believe that stopping the killing, telling the truth, and refusing violence are not naïve positions but the only ones that have ever actually worked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zXPcCHK-ng

Save the Date!

We are thrilled to invite you to ROOM's annual Gala, celebrating our 10th anniversary, on Thursday, July 23, at 8 PM EDT on Zoom. Our theme this year is "What Drives Us."

We are honored to announce that this year's Coline Covington Award will be presented to Mark Solms, a pioneer in neuropsychoanalysis whose new book, "The Only Cure: Freud and the Neuroscience of Mental Healing" (Pegasus, 2026) makes a transformative case for what drives us and what healing ourselves actually requires.

This week, Aneta and Isaac speak with Shari Appollon, a Haitian-American psychoanalyst. Appollon explores how her psychoanalytic training has complicated her vision of her family's origins in Haiti and her own experience in America. In caring for her mother at the end of her life, Appollon noticed parallels between not entirely knowing her own mother and not knowing Haiti. She unfolds how vulnerability in writing both exposes and fortifies the self.

What lives in the in-between?

The pause before an answer. The sliver of light between shadow and knowing. The quiet stretch between one chapter of life and the next.

In ROOM 2.26, multidisciplinary artist Margaret Vega gives form to exactly that. Drawing from clouds, light, stone, and shape across global landscapes, her work prolongs the fleeting — the fluid, momentary interrelationships of nature that mirror our own human existence.
