πŸ’‘ Wellness Wednesday

One of the biggest mistakes I see?

People stop exercising the moment something hurts.

I understand why.

Most people aren't sure if the pain means:
❓ "I'm injured"
❓ "I should push through"
❓ "I need to stop completely"

This uncertainty causes many adults to lose strength, fitness, and confidence.

Try using the Traffic Light System:
🟒 Green Light: Pain improves or settles quickly
🟑 Yellow Light: Mild soreness that resolves within 24 hours
πŸ”΄ Red Light: Symptoms worsen and stay worse

Pain is not always a stop sign. Often it's a signal that you need to adjust, not quit.

If you've been avoiding exercise because of pain, there may be a better solution than simply doing less.

πŸ“’ New Article Alert!

Have you stopped exercising because something started hurting?

You're not alone.

The 5 most common reasons active adults stop exercising are:
βœ… Back pain
βœ… Knee pain
βœ… Shoulder pain
βœ… Foot pain
βœ… Fear of injury

The problem is that stopping activity often creates even more problems, including loss of strength, reduced bone density, and decreased confidence.

In this week's article, I discuss how to use the Traffic Light System, understand the difference between hurt vs harm, and stay active safely through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond.

Pain does not always mean damage. Sometimes it means you need a better plan.

One of the most common questions I'm getting lately:

"Do I have to stop all activity while I'm in physical therapy?"

Absolutely not.

In fact, one of my biggest goals is to help you KEEP doing the things you love while we work through your pain or injury.

Most people don't need complete rest. They need the right modifications, the right exercises, and a plan that keeps them moving safely.

Whether it's running, lifting, hiking, pickleball, gardening, or keeping up with your kids and grandkids, physical therapy should help you stay active, not put your life on hold.

Pain doesn't always mean stop. Often it means your body needs a better strategy.

🌿 Wellness Wednesday: Headaches Are Not Normal

One of the most common things I hear is:

"I've just learned to live with my headaches."

The truth is, headaches are incredibly common, but they are not something you should have to accept as part of everyday life.

Many headaches actually start from problems in the neck, jaw, posture, stress, or muscle tension. I frequently see people who have headaches for months or even years without realizing there may be a physical cause that can be treated. Physical therapy can help address neck stiffness, muscle tension, and movement limitations that contribute to headaches.

Simple tip:
βœ… If you spend a lot of time sitting, try using a lumbar roll to support the natural curve of your low back. Better posture can reduce strain on your neck and upper back throughout the day.

If you're tired of relying on medications, missing out on activities, or pushing through another headache, it may be time to look deeper at the cause.

🚨 Headaches Do Not Need To Feel Normal 🚨

If you've been dealing with headaches for months or even years you may have been told it's just stress, hormones, aging, or something you'll have to live with.

But that's not always true.

Many headaches are related to:
βœ” Neck stiffness
βœ” Stress and tension
βœ” Poor posture
βœ” Jaw problems
βœ” Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause

Here's something that surprises many people:

You can have headaches or jaw pain that are actually coming from your neck... even if your neck doesn't hurt.

At 603 PT & Wellness, we take a whole-body approach to finding the root cause instead of just chasing symptoms. Our goal is to help active adults avoid unnecessary pills, procedures, and frustration while building long-term solutions that keep them strong and active.

If headaches are making you irritable, affecting your work, disrupting your workouts, or making social plans feel like a chore, you don't have to keep suffering in silence.

Is Your Foot Pain Really Coming From Your Foot?

Many people spend years trying to fix foot pain with:
πŸ‘Ÿ New shoes
🦢 Inserts
🧊 Ice
🎾 Massage tools

😩 Yet the pain keeps coming back.

Here's something I see regularly:

The painful area isn't always the source of the problem.

Sometimes chronic foot pain is influenced by:
βœ”οΈ Hip weakness
βœ”οΈ Limited ankle mobility
βœ”οΈ Poor walking mechanics
βœ”οΈ Nerve irritation from the low back
βœ”οΈ Prolonged sitting posture

That's why at 603 PT & Wellness we assess how the whole body moves instead of only focusing on the painful area.

Quick Tip:
If you sit for work, place a lumbar roll behind your lower back to help maintain your natural spinal curve.
A supported spine often means less strain throughout the entire movement chainβ€”including the hips, legs, and feet.
