A Huge Shout Out to someone I’ve had the privilege of working with professionally, Dave Kopeny, on the release of Tip of the Spear.
As both a therapist and a parent, I can’t recommend this book enough. Our kids are growing up in a world with social media, increasing peer pressure, and easier access to more potent substances than ever before. This book provides the facts, real-life experiences, and practical strategies that every parent should know. Some of the information is eye-opening and scary, but knowledge is power.
What I appreciate most is that it empowers parents, encourages them to take action and seek support, and reminds us that it truly takes a village to raise and protect our children. It reminds parents that we are not alone but also that we, parents, play a crucial role in the success of our kids.
Whether you’re parenting young children or teenagers, this is a book every parent should read. Our kids deserve informed, involved and active parents, and this book is a great place to start. ❤️
I grew up in a house of addiction. My father was a brilliant attorney, gifted writer and painter. He was also an alcoholic and eventually left our family. My brother was sweet and kind but died when his body could no longer take the years of drug and alcohol abuse. My sister-in-law was young and innocent and died from a he**in overdose at the age of 21, just a baby.
My formative years prepared me well for a professional career spanning over 3 decades of working with families battling addiction. As a school counselor, juvenile probation officer, gang investigator and private investigator specializing in adolescent/young adult drug intervention, I was part of, and witnessed firsthand, how this country’s “war on drugs” failed us all.
I wrote Tip of the Spear as a frontline strategy manual that teaches parents how to educate, monitor, supervise and protect their child from this ubiquitous threat.
