Trying to conceive can be so much more overwhelming, exhausting, and emotional than most people realize.

There’s so much advice out there: what to do, what not to do, what supplements to take, how to eat, how to track, how to optimize. It can start to feel like you’re somehow doing it wrong if you can’t keep up with all of it.

And underneath all of that is the emotional weight: the hope, the waiting, the disappointment, the grief, the fear, the longing. Sometimes all in the same week.

If you’re in this season right now, I want you to know you are not alone.

So many more people than you think are quietly walking this path too, navigating the same uncertainty, carrying the same hopes, trying to hold onto themselves through it all.

Wherever you are in your journey, you’re doing better than you think. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to feel everything that comes up. You’re allowed to ask for support.

AMH, or anti-müllerian hormone, is often talked about like it’s a fertility verdict, but it’s really just one piece of information.
Practically speaking, AMH is a marker of how the ovaries may respond to hormonal signaling. This is why it’s especially useful in IVF settings, where clinics use it to help predict how the ovaries might respond to stimulation during an egg retrieval cycle.

Outside of IVF, though, AMH is only one part of the picture. It may give us some information about egg quantity, but it does not tell us about egg quality.

If you are still ovulating, your body is still responding to hormonal signals. Each cycle, typically one egg is released, and truly, it only takes one. I remind my patients of this often: we are not trying to have millions of children, we are trying to have one healthy one.

There is also emerging research suggesting that acupuncture may help support ovarian function and improve AMH levels in some patients.

The most supportive way to look at AMH is as a data point, not a diagnosis. It can help guide timing, inform decisions, and shape the kind of support you may need, but it should never be used to create panic or pressure.

Fertility care works best when we look at the whole picture, not just a single number.

I’ve been an active participant in a lot of people’s fertility journeys (thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has let me into this space of their life). I have seen a lot of experimenting, people trying things on, dietary changes and shifts, exercise regime shifts. There’s things I’ve seen that have worked really well and then some things that have kind of flopped. Let’s chat about some things that work really well, in my own clinical experience! I added a bonus 4th suggestion that I am not at all biased towards 😉

Understand the fertile window.
Simply put—are you timing things based on your body’s signs, or are you just following an app? Apps can be helpful, but they often miss the nuances of your actual fertile days.
Nourishing your body with food.
Moving away from skipping meals and processed foods, and instead focusing on eating enough real, balanced meals, can make a huge difference. Blood sugar has a powerful role in fertility. When we eat well, our bodies feel safe and stable—and that sense of safety often translates into better fertility outcomes.
Involving your partner.
Whatever lifestyle shifts you’re making, including your partner, is a game changer. It lightens the load, makes new habits easier to stick with, and can foster deeper, more intentional connection during this journey.

What are some things you shifted that you know helped you to conceive?

I discuss all of these things and more in my sessions at my acupuncture clinic in Doylestown, Bucks County PA with my patients. Want support? Book an appointment with me at the link in my bio.

I’ll tell you a secret. When I am working with people to help them conceive, I am not only thinking about a positive pregnancy test. I am thinking months in the future, the end of the pregnancy (and even further, into postpartum) where I want you feeling supported and held. Fertility is so much larger than just conceiving. I know there are so many people out there who have suffered losses, especially recurrent losses. I see you. Fertility means establishing and THEN nurturing a pregnancy until full term. The best way I love to offer care is through support during the beginning of pregnancy and throughout.

One of the things I love most about my job is that my patients who use IVF or IUI and conceive (yay!) will typically graduate from the clinic at around 10 weeks time. They then shift over to their regular OB clinic and continue care.

But, I get to be a constant support with so many of my people and I am so grateful for that process. I have walked next to so many people trying to conceive, becoming pregnant, supporting the pregnancy, and then supporting the postpartum period thereafter. To anyone who has welcomed me into this sacred and very tender space, thank you.

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m really tired of information overload. So, here’s some simplicity: my availability for this week.

I am a fertility and perinatal acupuncturist in Doylestown, Bucks County, PA. I love my work.

This past month we had 6 people conceive (most had varied between trying to conceive anywhere between 1-6 years of trying), four IVF transfers supported (woo!), three IUI cycles supported, four egg retrievals down, and 3 babies born (hello, May babies). I’ll say it again, I love my work. Thank you for trusting me with your care.

To book one of these appointments feel free to DM me or head to the link in my bio and click, book an appointment.

There is so much focus on the embryo (and for good reason!) when my people are doing IVF. How many eggs were retrieved overall? How many fertilized? How is the grading?

But, I try to remind my people of this, s***m and the uterine environment matters just as much as the embryos.

There are three big players in my mind when it comes to IVF and success from the perspective of Chinese Medicine. Egg, S***m, and Uterus. In Chinese Medicine all three of these things come down to a concept called Kidney Jing.

The egg is considered a direct expression of Kidney Jing.
Rooted in the Kidneys (especially Kidney Yin + Jing)
Represents substance, potential, and deep reserves
Closely tied to:
Ovarian reserve (AMH, follicle count)
Egg quality
Long-term reproductive capacity

S***m is also rooted in Kidney Jing, but expresses more Yang.
Dynamic, motile, active
Dependent on Kidney Yang for:
Movement
Vitality
Warming function

The uterus as an “extraordinary organ”
In Chinese medicine, the uterus (Bao Gong) is not treated like a typical organ.
It’s considered one of the extraordinary organs—structures that are:
Deeply connected to Jing (Chinese medicine)
Responsible for storing, transforming, and expressing essence into form
Less about daily function, more about creation and potential

So, when I am working with people before, during, and through all the aspects of IVF (and fertility not using reproductive technology), I know that as a Chinese Medicine practitioner I am thinking and working on all these pieces at once. Acupuncture is HOLISTIC for a reason. There is no way to neatly splice these aspects apart.

I want to take a small moment out of this slice of the internet to say thank you. I have been an acupuncturist for almost six years now. I have always run my own acupuncture practice and business, which I love.

But, a business is not possible without support from community. Thank you to everyone who makes my work possible. Your trust in me is something I so greatly appreciate it’s difficult to put into words.

Here’s to many more years.

Also, super grateful for the beautiful light that hits the clinic just right.

Things no one tells you about the two-week wait:
It can feel long, quiet, and surprisingly intense. Even when everything looks “good” on paper, this part asks you to sit in the unknown.
A lot of people start analyzing every sensation, hoping for a sign. The truth is, early pregnancy symptoms and progesterone symptoms can feel almost identical, which can make it even more confusing.

What actually matters here is support. Supporting your nervous system. Staying gently connected to your body without overanalyzing. Creating small pockets of calm throughout the day.

You don’t have to do this in a perfect or controlled way. You’re allowed to feel hopeful, anxious, calm, and unsure, sometimes all at once.

If you’re in this window right now, you’re not alone in it.
