Take a moment and think about which side of your mouth you tend to chew with. Most people have a favorite side without ever realizing it, until a sore tooth, a stiff jaw, or a dentist pointing it out during a checkup brings it to their attention.

Most people know they’re supposed to visit the dentist every six months. Most people also know that life gets in the way. Maybe you have a scheduling conflict here, a busy season there, and suddenly it’s been over a year. It doesn’t feel urgent because nothing hurts. But it’s important to un...

This is one of the most common things dentists hear from parents: “Does it really need to be treated? It’s just a baby tooth.” It’s an understandable question. If the tooth is going to fall out anyway, why go to the trouble? The answer comes down to what baby teeth are actually doing in the ...

A deep cleaning is not a “better” cleaning. It’s recommended when your gums are unhealthy enough that a regular cleaning may no longer be the right treatment.

How do we decide? We look at 3 main things:
1 Gum measurements
2 X-rays
3 The clinical exam

That means we’re checking for deeper pockets, bone loss, bleeding/inflammation, and tartar below the gumline. So if you’ve ever been told you need a deep cleaning and felt confused, ask to see your measurements and x-rays. You deserve to understand why treatment is being recommended.

PS deep cleanings may also be called “SRP” or “scaling and root planing” or “NSPT” or “non-surgical periodontal therapy” 🙂

Your bite — the way your upper and lower teeth come together — is something most people only think about when something feels off. Maybe there’s a new sensitivity, or one side of your jaw feels like it’s doing more work than the other.
