This might be the biggest retinol scam 😤 and it drives me insane!
I’ve seen product claiming to contain 5% retinol, but I am a cosmetic chemist and after formulating 100s of products for different companies, I can tell you that retinol is very expensive…No company would use it deliberately at 5% with no benefits over lower amounts + a very high risk of irritation.

Please stop falling for these exaggerated, marketing claims. The problem is that many brands private label their products and actually have no idea what’s really inside them.

I’m a cosmetic chemist. This is the exact vitamin c serum formula I made for myself to illuminate the skin and brighten dark spots.
This formula is unique and you can find this serum only in my store (link in bio)

The breakdown:

🧪 niacinamide , 15%.
High concentrations of niacinamide provide maximum benefits for specific skin concerns like hyperpigmentation.

🧪 Vitamin C (sodium ascorbyl phosphate), 10% to improve stubborn dark spots.

🧪 Panthenol 1% to soothe the skin and reduce inflammation.

SUPPORTING INGREDIENTS

🧪 Dipotassium Glycihirrizinate which acts as brightening agent and soothing.

🧪 Glycerin and propanediol for hydration

I am a 40 years old cosmetic chemist and use these products every day:

1) Vaseline.
Despite the bad reputation it’s actually one of the best products for dry skin and lips. Even a famous $300 moisturizer has petrolatum as the 2nd ingredient 🤫
Vaseline works by forming an hydrophobic layer on the skin that keeps the moisture inside. And no it does not clog pores.

2) Deodorant.
Seems basic but it’s hard to find a deodorant that it is not “all natural” (those don’t work for me) and antiperspirant (I don’t sweat a lot so I don’t need it). I order this from Italy through Amazon.

3) Minoxidil and Spironolactone.
I use minoxidil for hair growth and Spironolactone for hormonal acne. Spironolactone works by down regulating testosterone receptors in the skin. This reduces oil and therefore acne.
Minoxidil works by extending the growth phase of hair + enlarging hair follicles.

4) My favorite razors have an aloe vera serum incorporated so they glide better and also leave my skin soft.

5) Krill oil. Krill is a tiny crustaceous that lives in the Antartic ocean. Omega 3s in krill oil show a better absorption compared to regular fish oil ones.
Krill oil also contains astaxanthin a powerful antioxidant. When it comes to the skin the fatty acids and phospholipids help with elasticity, hydration & skin barrier health.

6) SPF. This is the basic protection against dark spots, skin tumor and of course, aging. I use a tinted mineral spf 30 from my own line Luisa True Skincare.

Melasma stack:

1. Anti pigmentation agent 👉🏻 Tranexamix acid. Use a formula with at least 2% . You can also take it orally if the Melasma is severe.
2. Retinol (or tretinoin ) at night. If you’re looking for a sensitive skin friendly retinol serum , go to the link in my bio.
3. Hydroquinone. Cycle it, don’t use it all the time. And only buy with a prescription.
4. Mineral tinted spf every day, for example the one I make (link in bio).

Overall Melasma is not an easy fix. Patience and consistency required 💯💯💯

Most sunscreens protect against UVA and UVB. But melasma also responds to visible light and no clear sunscreen blocks that.

The fix is simple once you know what to look for: iron oxides on the INCI list.

Today I turn 41 and these are some lessons I learned along the way - take what you need and leave the rest

1. The body you build in your 30s carries you in your 40s. Lift. Walk. Sleep.
2. Confidence is quiet. Insecurity is loud.

3. Not everyone deserves access to you.
4. Strength is attractive.

5. Let them.
6. Aging is a privilege but looking strong is a choice.

7. Being underestimated is still my favorite advantage.
8. You outgrow people. That’s actually a good sign.

9. Real luxury is sleeping well, eating well, and not checking your phone in panic.
10. Discipline feels better than regret.

11. What you tolerate teaches people how to treat you.
12. Travel changes perspectives faster than anything.

13. Consistency beats intensity.
14. You can rebuild at any age.

15. You don’t owe anyone access to you
16. Saying no is a complete sentence. Yeah!
