“You’re allowed to take things one day at a time.”

Thank you to actress and breast cancer survivor Cheryl Ladd for calling the City of Hope Line and sending this powerful reminder to all cancer patients, wherever they are at in their journeys.

This National Cancer Survivors Month, listen to messages, or leave your own for someone facing cancer: 626-218-4056.

You may never meet them. But they won’t forget how your words made them feel.

Call the City of Hope Line at (626) 218-4056 to share a message of hope or hear from others who understand the weight of a cancer diagnosis.

In 1913, a group of volunteers driven by compassion established a free, nonsectarian sanatorium on 10 acres of sun-soaked land in Duarte, California. It began with two canvas cottages. And a belief that “health is a human right.”

Over the decades, that belief has driven some of modern medicine's most significant advances, including the development of synthetic human insulin and the technology behind widely used cancer-fighting drugs like Herceptin, Rituxan and Avastin.

Today, City of Hope is an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center and has expanded into a national system. It is one of the largest and most advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the U.S., with our discoveries impacting more than 100 million people each year.

Our mission is to make hope a reality for all touched by cancer and diabetes.

And our work is just beginning.

For someone facing cancer, a few words of encouragement can help carry the weight.

This National Cancer Survivors Month, Marc Roberge of O.A.R. is sharing a reminder of how much those words matter, especially on the hardest days.

Take a moment to listen, then pass that hope forward. Call the City of Hope Line at (626) 218-4056 to hear a message or share one for someone who needs it.

City of Hope broke ground on our new Pathology and Radiation Oncology (PRO) Building at our Duarte campus.

The 125,000-square-foot facility will bring radiation oncology and a comprehensive pathology laboratory together in one building, helping patients move more seamlessly from diagnosis to treatment.

For patients across the San Gabriel Valley and beyond, it means more advanced cancer care delivered closer to home.

Construction is underway.

This National Cancer Survivors Month, Olympian and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team member Bea kim is sharing a message shaped by her family’s cancer journey.

After her father’s diagnosis with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, she experienced firsthand the ups and downs that come with cancer, and how powerful support can be along the way.

If you or someone you love is facing cancer, you are not alone. Call the City of Hope Line at (626) 218-4056 to hear messages of hope or leave one of your own.

Fifteen years ago, long-term survival in lung cancer was not something oncologists planned around. That is starting to change.

Dr. Kristin Higgins, chief clinical officer at City of Hope Atlanta and radiation oncologist, has watched targeted therapy reshape outcomes for patients with specific genetic mutations in non-small cell lung cancer. The latest long-term data from the CROWN study showed that patients with ALK-mutated disease treated with lorlatinib had not yet reached median progression-free survival. For Dr. Higgins, those results signal something the field has not been able to say before.

Lung cancer now has long-term survivors. And for the first time, oncologists can start building survivorship care to match.

This special edition of On the Edge of Breakthrough: Voices of Cancer Research is out now. Tune in to hear Dr. Higgins, along with Dr. Alan Bryce and Dr. Joseph Mikhael, on the research shaping conversations at American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2026.

Choosing a treatment for relapsed multiple myeloma used to mean weighing a handful of options. Today, Dr. Joseph Mikhael compares it to reading a Cheesecake Factory menu.

Dr. Mikhael, a myeloma physician and professor in the Division of Clinical Genomics and Therapeutics at TGen, part of City of Hope, led the first-ever American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) myeloma guidelines in 2019. When he and his colleagues published an updated version earlier this year, the field had changed so much that the guidelines now must be updated on a rolling basis just to keep pace with new approvals.

For his patients, that pace of change means new options are reaching them faster than ever.
