Today, we raise awareness about head and neck cancers affecting the mouth, throat, voice box, sinuses, and salivary glands. Early detection can make a life-changing difference, yet many of these cancers are diagnosed at later stages.
At CCMG, we are honored to care for patients facing head and neck cancer with incredible strength and resilience. We encourage everyone to listen to their bodies and speak up about changes that don’t feel right.
Important warning signs to discuss with a healthcare provider include:
• A lump or mass in the neck
• Persistent voice changes or hoarseness
• Ongoing sore throat, ear pain, or difficulty swallowing
• Mouth sores or growths that do not heal
• Unexplained weight loss

Today, on Glioblastoma Awareness Day, this cause is especially close to our hearts.
This week, a member of our CCMG family experienced the heartbreaking loss of a beloved family member to glioblastoma (GBM), the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer. Our hearts are with them during this difficult time, and we join in lifting up their family and all those affected by glioblastoma in our thoughts and prayers.
We also honor every person courageously living with GBM, the caregivers who walk beside them each day, and the families whose lives have been forever changed by this disease.
Today, our team is wearing gray in memory, in honor, and in solidarity with every patient and family affected by glioblastoma. We remain committed to raising awareness, supporting research, and advocating for better treatments and, one day, a cure.
To every family facing GBM: you are in our thoughts today and every day. 🩶

Today we wear purple for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) Awareness Day to shine a light on this rare form of cancer and the individuals and families whose lives are impacted by it. The date draws attention to the fact that an estimated 13 people are diagnosed with this rare form of cancer every day in the United States, making awareness, early detection, and continued research essential in improving outcomes and expanding treatment options.
At CCMG, we are honored to walk alongside our patients and their loved ones throughout their cancer journeys. Their strength, courage, and resilience inspire us every day and remind us of the importance of compassionate care and continued progress in cancer research.

💛 Why Yellow in July?
Today we wear yellow for Bone Cancer and Sarcoma Awareness Month, representing hope, strength, and resilience for those affected by these rare cancers. Sarcomas can develop in the bones, muscles, tendons, cartilage, and other connective tissues, making awareness and early detection especially important.
At CCMG, we are honored to care for patients facing every stage of the cancer journey. Their courage inspires us each day and reminds us why education, research, and compassionate care matter. If you or a loved one experiences unexplained bone pain or a persistent lump in the soft tissue, don't ignore it, talk with your healthcare provider. Early evaluation makes a meaningful difference!

Patients need access to new cancer treatments.

As a community oncologist practicing in rural Georgia, I witness firsthand the devastating impact of pancreatic cancer on patients and their families. It remains one of the deadliest cancers, often diagnosed at an advanced stage and associated with poor survival rates.
That is why recent data showing a novel targeted therapy significantly improving survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer are so encouraging. For patients facing a disease with historically limited treatment options, advances like these represent hope.
These breakthroughs are the result of years of scientific research, rigorous clinical trials and substantial investment. The United States has led the world in developing lifesaving therapies because it fosters an environment that rewards medical innovation.
At the same time, Innovation alone is not enough. Many of my patients face barriers related to cost, insurance coverage, transportation and access to speciality care. A breakthrough treatment can only change lives if patients can obtain it.
Policymakers should pursue a balanced approach that protects medical innovation while improving patient access and affordability. Policies that inadvertently reduce investment in research and development risk slowing future breakthroughs.
Patients deserve both continued innovation and meaningful access to the therapies that innovation produces.

• Wear protective clothing and hats
• Schedule routine skin checks when recommended

Today we recognize World Sickle Cell Day and help raise awareness for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease, an inherited blood disorder that can cause severe pain episodes, anemia, infections, fatigue, and other serious health complications. Early diagnosis, routine medical care, hydration, and ongoing support can play an important role in improving quality of life and long-term health outcomes. Continued education and increased awareness help ensure patients receive the care and support they deserve.
