Today I have the polar opposite of the Groucho sunglasses I shared yesterday

Eric works at a nuclear power plant in Illinois. I can't tell you which one, or I'd have to k*ll you. lol

Anyway each employee has a gas mask in the event of the unthinkable, and while wearing that gas mask you must be able to read. If you can't, you get to go home.

Eric's supervisor found out that Eric didn't have his current prescription in his gas mask, so he couldn't work until he did. They have a contract with a large nationwide safety glass manufacturer, and it would take 2 weeks for them to fabricate new lenses....while Eric sat home.

He called me, I assured him I could make lenses for his mask. He jumped in his car and drove to Dubuque.

His employer usually pays for these, but he had to pay out of pocket for these, but that's cheaper than not being paid for 2 weeks.

I had them ready in 2 days, called Eric, and he drove back up to pick them up, and was back to work.

Not quite as fun as making Groucho sunglasses, but rewarding for sure.

When I tell you I do things other opticals either can't or won't do, I am not shi**ing you.

Guy comes in and wants his Groucho Marx nose made into sunglasses. Who am I to question it? So I set about making it happen.

The eyeglass portion was not made to have lenses installed, so I grafted a clip on sunglass to his nose.

Bryon gets some custom eyeglasses.

Bryon was sent to me by his cousin. That matters because his cousin works at a local well known Optical. I won't mention the name because someone might get upset. Someone who thinks I am disparaging them.

His cousin is the only working Optician in Dubuque with more years in the business than me, but his office doesn't do what Bryon wants, so I stepped up. lol

Bryon is particular about his stuff and wanted new glasses, but likes the size and shape of his old lenses, so I made him glasses with lenses made to the exact shape of his old lens.

You can see in the 1st pic the line I used to measure for his progressive lenses, the 2nd pic has one lens made up, and one sample lens. The 3rd pic has both new lenses, and the last pic includes the WileyX safety glasses I also made up for him.

Bryon's lenses for both pair are digital progressives, and we added anti-reflective coating to the dress glasses, his first pair with AR coating

Months ago I told you about Fuerste Optical no longer selling glass lenses, and referring glass lens wearing patients to me.

About a week ago I got a call from a young lady inquiring about frame repair on glasses she got elsewhere. I told her I would be happy to look at them to see what her options might be.

When she got here she had lost the temple (ear piece) to her frame, both nose pads were missing and the frame was loose and crooked.

I explained all of her options, she chose an oddball temple replacement and new nose pads. I did the repairs she chose.

As we were talking she told me she asked ChatGTP where to get glasses repaired in Dubuque. Hopefully you can guess that ChatGTP sent her to me. It was correct.

Saturday I was working when a woman stopped in to look for prescription sunglasses. In talking to her, she told me she was a customer of Key City Vision.

She said since the future of Key City is unsure, she told them she was uncomfortable buying from them and having issues that can't get resolved. She asked them who they would recommend, and you might see a pattern, it was me.

Mark called me last week regarding repairing his glasses he bought elsewhere. I told him I would happy to look at them and see what I could do.

He came in with a pair missing the temple (ear piece). He had lost it, and told me he is a rancher, and doesn't care what it looks like. I found him a temple to replace the missing one.

He told me he raises sheep and goats, and is hard on glasses. He had another pair that was falling off when he worked, so I showed him cable temple adapters. He had me put a pair on his frame.

Now Mark is ready to mix it up with those goats and sheeps.
