We specialize in this work and dedicate ourselves to ongoing training, supervision, and consultation to stay sharp and keep advancing our skills.

Perinatal training is required at Duluth Perinatal.

Basic training through Postpartum Support International and other approved courses requires a minimum of 14 hours. Advanced training indicates an additional 6 hours of training like advanced training in perinatal loss, OCD, birth trauma, etc.

A PMH-C has done the training, has a minimum of two years experience doing perinatal work, and has passed an exam to certify themselves as a specialist. The certification comes strictly from Postpartum Support International

Our website will soon distinguish each clinician’s level of training and expertise in perinatal mental health.

When you’re searching for help or connecting others to help, ensure that your mental health professional is at least basic trained. This is specialized work, necessitating specialty training.

Join us in getting trained in perinatal mental health!

It’s maternal mental health month! Now, more than ever, do we need trained perinatal mental health professionals to be able to diagnose and treat perinatal mental health conditions.

If you feel passionate about perinatal mental health and want to get trained, our next in state opportunity is happening this October in Duluth!

People working with perinatal parents, especially those freshly postpartum and throughout the first year of parenthood, must be able to witness distress, recognize warning signs, and know how to respond accordingly.

The Lindsay Clancy case highlights the all too often reality that mothers are not adequately supported, with their concerns and needs being (repeatedly) missed and dismissed by faulty systems.

Perinatal mental health will always be important. The question is whether the systems in place will recognize a need for change, and then follow through with making changes so that moms, babies, families, and communities are better resourced, believed, and appropriately treated by a perinatal specialist when there is a perinatal mental health condition.
