A couple weeks ago I got to experience the Como Zoo and Conservatory for the first time on Saint Paul. To say I could’ve spent all day in the conservatory would be an understatement (and a lie because I was sweatinggg). Love that I got to experience one of my partners core memories and safe places, I can only imagine these rooms filled with life is a sanctuary to many.

a little intro to Sodapop, my lil covid kitty turned therapy cat turned menace to society ♥️

Soda is 6 years old, I’ve had him since he was a kitten and he’s every bit the typical orange tabby. He’s also excepted by his doctor to have OCD, so like, he gets it 💅🏼

He was diagnosed with severe heart disease earlier this year, which has made him all the more dramatic because he knows I worry about him x10 now. He is the smartest cat, he just chooses to use his powers for evil more often than not.

He’s the biggest love bug and an incredibly sensitive boy, I do believe he is a freshly reincarnated human with all his big feelings. I know the universe brought us together to teach me patience and I’m so grateful for that 🫶🏻 (but like I learned it so plz stawp 🥲

When a client asks, “Do you struggle with anxiety too?” or “Have you ever gone through something like this?” they’re not typically looking for ‘the dirt’. Often they’re trying to answer a much deeper question:

✨ Are you a real person?
✨ Can you relate to me?
✨ Are you safe?
✨ Will you understand me?
✨ Can I trust you?

Good therapy isn’t about never answering personal questions. It’s about being thoughtful about why the question is being asked and whether answering serves the client’s goals.

Sometimes a personal question is really an invitation to explore the therapeutic relationship. Sometimes it’s a bid for connection. Sometimes it’s a way of assessing safety, trust, or understanding.

The goal isn’t rigidly avoiding self-disclosure. It’s being intentional about when sharing something may support the work and when holding a boundary may be more therapeutic.

The question matters. The curiosity matters. And sometimes the boundary matters, too.

✨Dilly Dally Days - Part 1 ✨

Dilly-dallying is honestly one of my favorite hobbies.

There’s something so regulating about wandering around with absolutely no purpose, and it’s one of my favorite things to encourage clients to do, too.

Had a stressful week at work? Pop in some headphones and go look at cute things.

Feeling socially anxious? Pop in some headphones and go look at cute things. Maybe even get a little wild and chat with a barista.

It’s good for the soul to spend time with no agenda, no productivity goal, and no purpose other than simply existing.

Sometimes that looks like a walk outside. Sometimes it’s wandering through a bookstore. Sometimes it’s finding a new place to observe, soak in a little stimulation, and float on through.

We spend so much of our lives trying to get somewhere. Every now and then, it’s nice to let yourself go nowhere at all.

Sometimes healing isn’t becoming someone new but rather finding your way back to yourself.

🌸 Realizing that being curious, silly, and adventurous aren’t things we grow out of with age is an exciting revelation.

🌷 Life is so much more fun when I’m not worried about embarrassing myself, “what a silly thing to let stop me from a memory” has been my new favorite redirect.

🌺 It dawned on me one random day that the
more I embraced myself and allowed my authenticity to guide me - the deeper and more fulfilling connections I was making.

🌼 Embracing our authenticity pulls out a seat for others authentic selves to sit at the table.

💐 And on a last note:
You’re never too old, too lost, or too far behind to build a life that feels beautiful again.

Because eating disorders are famously cured by a single metric 🫠
Narrator: They are not.

✨first reel kinda nervous 👉🏻👈🏻✨
••
in therapy can be a bit of a hot topic. And to be so transparent, it’s part of what’s held me back from putting myself out there a bit more and actually enjoying making content. Which is why I figured I might as well start with a post about it.
••
Personally I think professionalism matters when it comes to things like ethics, confidentiality, boundaries, paperwork, education, you know the ... professional things?
••
But when someone is sitting with me talking about the most painful, embarrassing, vulnerable parts of their life? When someone wants to tell me the most silly ridiculous story because it makes them giggle? You better believe I’m kicking my feet right there with ya. I’m a huge believer in energy matching (within reason and without being performative) as a powerful tool in therapy.
••
I don’t think people seeking help need a polished corporate version of me. They need a human, they need to feel that I too am not immune to the human condition. My hope is always that if I show up as I am, people feel empowered to show up as they are.
••
✨So anyway welcome to my page, things might get a lil weird here 🤷🏻‍♀️✨
