Northwoods is excited to announce another in-person clinician - Kari Nelson, MSW, LGSW. I have had the privilege of supervising Kari since her bachelor's degree in social work and am honored that she chose Northwoods to continue her amazing work. Kari is an incredibly gifted and caring practitioner. Kari already has limited openings in her schedule, so please reach out via text, phone call, or messenger to schedule. Below is an excerpt in Kari's own words.
Taking this step in caring for yourself is meaningful, and it matters. My approach to therapy is person-centered and eclectic because no two people - or their stories - are the same. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and able to show up just as you are. I often draw from mindfulness and grounding practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, cognitive-behavioral strategies, Polyvagal Theory, and DBT-informed skills to support deepening self-understanding, enhancing coping abilities, uncovering resilience, and fostering meaningful connection. I support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, and stress that can come with everyday life. I believe in each person's inherent worth and capacity for growth. However you're arriving, we can take things at your pace and figure it out together. At the heart of my philosophy is this: You are not defined by what you're going through. Your thoughts, emotions, and challenges are real, important, and part of your story - and not the entirety of who you are. A bit about me: I am a lifelong Minnesotan and longtime Duluthian. I like to spend time out in the woods, down by the lake, and with my loved ones, including my two wonderfully quirky cats. I also enjoy music, board games, crossword puzzles, and continuing my own self-growth - something I believe we're all navigating in different ways.
