We’re proud to recognize Samantha Mann, RN Case Manager with our Erie Hospice team, for going above and beyond to honor a patient’s final wishes.

When a patient needed additional support making his final arrangements, Sam worked with a local funeral home to help ensure his wishes could be carried out. Knowing how important his faith was to him, she also coordinated with the hospice chaplain to have his Bible and rosary blessed.

Sam’s actions demonstrated compassion, respect and a commitment to preserving her patient’s dignity through the end of life.

Thank you, Sam, for showing what Compassion looks like in action. ❤️

The passing of Dolly Parton has sparked many reflections on her life, legacy and nearly 60-year marriage to Carl Dean. One piece shared with us also offered an important reminder about a role millions of people know well: caregiving.

Caring for someone you love can be deeply meaningful. It can also be physically and emotionally exhausting, and too often, caregivers put their own needs aside while focusing on the person they love.

Caregivers deserve care, too. ❤️

Whether it's an extra set of hands, time to rest and recharge, or simply knowing you don't have to manage everything alone, support can make a difference.

If you're caring for someone you love, we've put together resources and tips to help you care for yourself along the way.

Sometimes, hospice care looks like making pie crust.

When Interim HealthCare social worker Kiersten Roehm-Hoenie noticed that one of her hospice patients was struggling with depression, she looked for a meaningful way to connect beyond traditional interventions.

Knowing her patient had spent years baking, Kiersten asked her to teach her how to make pie crust.

Together, they spent several hours in the patient's home perfecting the crust and reminiscing over years of favorite recipes and baking memories.

But the story didn't end there.

Kiersten took an apple pie recipe from her patient's 1953 cookbook, paired it with the crust they had perfected together, and entered the pie in the Mercer County Fair.

It was a winner!

Kiersten was invited to the podium, where she shared the story behind the recipe with those gathered. Even the judge remarked that it was the best pie crust she'd ever had.

For Kiersten, though, the real win happened long before judging.

It's in moments like these that we're reminded hospice care is about so much more than caring for someone's medical needs. It's about seeing the whole person, their stories, their passions, their memories and the things that still bring them joy.

We're incredibly proud of Kiersten and the heart she brings to caring for her patients every day. 💙
