🔬👂 Can you guess what our technician Giselle is looking at today?

She’s checking out a sample from a dog’s ear under the microscope! 🐶🧫 Did you know we can also perform cytology on skin samples?

👀 Slide #1: Yeast
One of the most common types of yeast we see is Malassezia. Yeast can thrive when there is excess moisture or changes in the skin’s environment, often leading to redness, itching, odor, and discomfort.

👀 Slide #2: Cocci bacteria
Cocci are a type of bacteria that can be opportunistic or secondary to an underlying issue, such as allergies. Treating the infection is important, but finding and addressing the underlying cause is just as important!

🔬 So why is cytology important?
Because we never know what we’re going to find! Cytology allows us to see what’s actually happening on the skin or in the ears and helps us choose the most appropriate treatment for each patient.

From yeast to bacteria and everything in between, sometimes the microscope tells us the whole story! 🐾❤️

Happy Hump Day! 🐪💙

At Caladesi, we’re more than just an animal hospital - we’re a family! 🐾 And because we believe taking care of our team is just as important as taking care of our patients, we make time for team bonding, laughter, and plenty of fun! 🥰

Mental health matters, and we’re proud to prioritize time for our staff to relax, unwind, and enjoy each other outside of the hospital. ❤️✨

And speaking of fun… keep an eye out for our crew rocking our new Caladesi T-shirts at Dogtoberfest in Dunedin this November! 🐶🎃👕 We can’t wait to see you there!
