Every year, thousands of children are injured in lawn mower-related accidents. Many of these injuries are preventable!

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your family safe:

🧸 Walk the yard first and remove toys, sticks, and rocks that could become dangerous projectiles.

🌤️ Mow only in daylight and avoid wet grass.

👧 Children should be at least 12 years old to operate a push mower and 16 years old to operate a riding mower.

👶 Never allow a child to ride as a passenger on a riding mower.

A few extra minutes of preparation can help prevent a lifetime of injury❤️

Think you’re doing everything right with sunscreen? You might be missing one of these 👀

☀️ Babies under 6 months should stay out of direct sunlight whenever possible.
🧴 Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before heading outside.
⏰ Reapply every 2 hours, or sooner after swimming or sweating.
🌤️ Limit outdoor time during peak UV hours (10am-4pm)
✅ Choose mineral sunscreen when possible and avoid products containing oxybenzone.
🧢 Add extra protection with wide brimmed hats, UV blocking sunglasses, and lightweight sun protective clothing.

A little preparation goes a long way toward preventing painful sunburns and protecting your child’s skin for years to come💙

One simple rule can save a life: life jackets first 🛟

Drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children ages 1 to 4, but the good news is that it’s preventable. Here are a few ways to help keep your family safe around water!

🛟Wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket whenever you’re boating or when it’s appropriate in the water. Make sure it fits snugly. If it rides up to your child’s ears, it’s too big

👀Stay within arm’s reach of young children whenever they’re in or near the water

🚪Pay extra attention during transition times, like arriving at or leaving the pool. These are moments when children can easily slip into the water unnoticed

🏊Enroll children in swim lessons when they’re developmentally ready

👧Don’t rely on older siblings to supervise younger children in the water. Active adult supervision is always the safest choice

🏡If you have a pool at home, install 4-sided fencing with a self-closing, self-latching gate for an added layer of protection

🩺Talk with older children and teens about water safety, including the dangers of diving into unknown water, swimming at night, and using alcohol or drugs around water. Consider having your teen learn CPR

Remember: drowning is quick, silent, and preventable. Layering these safety habits helps ensure everyone can enjoy the water safely this summer💙

A reflection from Dr. Kelly 💙

Rock climbing demands intense focus, intentional foot placement, and both physical and mental strength.

Yet, the effort required during the climb is often surpassed by the incredible views waiting at the summit.

That feeling reminds me of raising my children.

Rock climbing teaches resilience, perseverance, and the importance of taking a step back to appreciate the journey and the hard work it took to get there.

Parenting is much the same. It’s a constant balancing act: managing schedules, helping with homework, meeting physical needs, navigating big emotions, and making sure your child feels loved, supported, and seen.

In the middle of the busy days, it’s important to pause, be present, and laugh with your child. Those moments are what they’ll remember, and what you’ll treasure most.

Parenting isn’t just about reaching milestones. It’s about finding joy throughout the climb. Just like standing at the top of a mountain, the greatest reward isn’t only the destination. It’s knowing you embraced the journey along the way!
