Housing availability remains one of the most consistent challenges we face as an employer. We recruit physicians, nurses, and staff who want to live and work in Durango, yet attainable homeownership continues to be limited. That reality affects recruitment timelines and long-term retention.
This development would add deed-restricted, for-sale homes within an area already designated for mixed-use development. We appreciate the emphasis on compatibility with the existing neighborhood and the intent to maintain the character and quality that current residents value.
Thoughtful design and strong infrastructure will be important to ensure this project strengthens the area over time.
Given our proximity to the site and our role in the community, we are also attentive to traffic flow, parking availability, and safe access for residents, nearby businesses, and emergency services. These are important considerations, and we are grateful the city has created opportunities for ongoing stakeholder input as plans move forward.
The City of Durango has been awarded funding through the voter-approved Proposition 123 Land Banking program that will advance plans for a housing project, which will deed-restrict 100% of approximately 50 townhomes to benefit the local workforce.
