https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FE2Q1Ywoog I got to sit and chat with my friend and nervous system coach, Mitch Webb. Y'all, we had fun! I find that time is the currency that means the most to me, and spending time with people I love to work with is what keeps me going. And it has been easy to stay up beat and optimistic in this modern day era of "The Wellness Industry" and marketing constantly trying to convince us that our health problems are simple and we can just take another supplement and be "better". Did you know that global consumers spend roughly $228 billion annually on dietary supplements? This is why, at TFMC, we focus on individualizing your plan and only prescribe what is absolutely necessary. We are not guessing, we are using precision medicine. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42346294/ Is it possible that our pediatric patients with tick borne illnesses have a harder time fighting off the bacteria because they lack cerebral folate? As a Mom to a kiddo who had PANDAS and Lyme and now is fighting Bartonella, I can attest to brain health, behavior and mental health being greatly impacted by tick born illness in these children who are primed for autoimmune diseases. We can all it autoimmune encephalitis when a child's personality, handwriting, behavior or mood changes right after the infection begins. Early treatment for tick born illnesses is key. But, even when kids have chronic bacterial "stealth" infections, we can treat them herbs, antibiotics, and whole immune/ detox support. Now, we can also test these kids for the Folate Receptor and see if their brain is able to absorb methylfolate, or if we need folinic acid instead.

This study demonstrates a high prevalence of FRAA in a pediatric VBD cohort. The sFR was strongly associated with Borrelia species infection, suggesting a potential mechanistic link between spirochetal infection and folate receptor autoimmunity. These findings support the consideration of FRA...

If you had told me 11 years ago that I would be in the best shape of my life, I would not believe you. I ended up in the emergency room with dizziness due to low cortisol ….and while I was relieved to find out that I did not have a brain tumor, I was also scared. The way that I had been doing things for 32 years:the pushing through, the not asking for help, the not taking breaks it just wasn’t working. I have learned so much about my body since that day, but more importantly, I have learned so much about my mind and spirit. It took time to find balance with treatment plans, supps and medications, nutrition, sleep, and stress management. This is partly because I am neurospicy and finding balance is challenging when I thrive hyperfocusing on projects. But, every time I made progress with my gut, hormones, and HPA axis, I would lose that progress quickly by over doing it. I would try to “fix” myself and forget my inner monologue, my boundaries and my self compassion. It took many, many, attempts and I looked for answers outside of myself often. But today, at 42, as I recover from a field hockey tournament by icing my whole body, I can tell you that I am finally my own cheerleader. It’s not just that I am in perimenopause and have ZERO f*cks to give (but this helps), it’s also that my spirit is certain that I was born enough. All of the trauma and the hard s**t taught me that asking for help is a beautiful thing. Connection with my partner, friends, kids, this is what heals me. I am a human who just wants to be understood and loved (just like you), and I’m still learning. It’s never been about perfection, it’s been about being alive.
If you’re curious how we approach healing at TFMC and what makes us different, let me know. I’m looking for new patients that align with all of this and want to learn more about their own inherent wisdom.

Every year in the United States 371,000 deaths are estimated to come from misdiagnosis. Many more hundreds of thousands of patients are permanently disabled because of misdiagnosis. Millions of women are not believed when they go to the doctor with specific symptoms such as fatigue or depression. We have a pandemic of malpractice in this country and it’s not completely the fault of the providers. It’s not just about training the providers differently….It has to do with the clinic being owned by the same company that owns the health insurance company and the same company that makes the medications. THEY GET RICH IF YOU STAY SICK. Essentially this company is not incentivized to cover imaging studies to rule out other diagnoses and they are not incentivized to cover blood work to rule out differential diagnoses. We need to scrap this system and untangle the vertical monopoly.
We need insurance companies that are willing to review studies on chronic Lyme disease, mycotoxin and heavy metal poisoning, successful treatment of Hashimoto’s and LDN for autoimmune disease. We need insurance companies that reward patients for stress reduction techniques, like meditation, yoga and exercise, sleep hygiene, and good nutrition. All drug research should be independently funded and not funded by an insurance company that will make a fortune if the drug is approved. We have drugs that have been approved with ONLY biased research.

A good health insurance policy is not enough. We need clean air, clean water, clean housing and good food that is not filled with toxins.
We need insurance companies to pay for full thyroid panels, vitamin D and B12 testing, cortisol testing and microbiome tests.
We also need more affordable training opportunities for young people to become health care providers, but that’s another post for another day.
