Hope Haven Therapy, PLLC

Hope Haven Therapy, PLLC Psychotherapy That is what therapy is all about! At different points in our lives, everyone can benefit from therapy.

Sometimes we all can use a little help on life’s journey--when things seem dark, when we feel like we are drowning in emotions, challenges, or thoughts, or when we just need someone to help bring things into focus as we set a course toward achieving our goals. Therapy is not having someone with all the right answers tell you what to do or doing things to you; it is having a professional guide to d

raw out your goals and strengths, to breathe hope into difficult times, and to assist with perspective and skills. I am excited to share this opportunity to explore and to engage in therapy with me FOR FREE via the Art Therapy Institute. Don’t worry--you do not need to be an artist; we will use whatever works best for you. I offer psychotherapy to individuals experiencing a variety of challenges and/or desiring to undertake a process of exploration. Often when people think about therapy, they do so with the story of “what’s wrong with me.” My perspective, however, is that “you are not the problem; the problem is the problem.” So, although I am interested in walking alongside you as you tackle the things that are getting in the way of having the life you desire, I bring a slightly different approach--one that focuses on alternative versions of our personal stories, writing the future we hope to have, thinking through the roles we perform, and finding your strengths and what works and building upon them. I do not believe that any one approach works for every problem and every person any more than we could use a single tool to make every home or auto repair. We will work together to identify the right tools to do the work at hand.

Losses are inescapable in life. Although our society only has rituals around mourning a physical death, grief does its carving in so many other areas of our lives (marriage, dreams, faith community, trauma, moves, friendships, health...). If you are still picking up the pieces of a loss, maybe we should talk.

Even when people speak the same language natively, words and their interpretation can vary immensely between two different individuals based on a host of factors. Sometimes, we are even saying the same thing in an argument but can't see it because each party uses different words or words that feel heavy with connotation to the other person. Therefore, a first step in understanding one another better and reaching resolution often lies in defining our terms together. A couple where one sees the other as "always complaining" provides a good example. The shared meaning making that takes place by defining what the term means to each of them and understanding the spectrum in which it exists in their minds/experiences constitutes a huge step toward understanding and collaboration.

If you are struggling to speak the same language with someone in your life, maybe we should talk.

Unfortunately, a lot of people think of therapy as being for the "broken." *Therapy is for those who want to live their best lives.* Sometimes that means some repair work, but most of the time it means helping a diamond to shine. Sleep. Food. Faith. Relationships. Exercises. Learning. Creativity. Those are all things we explore and polish in therapy. If you could use help living your best life, maybe we should talk.
