With deep sadness, we share that our colleague Karla Brodie Greene, passed peacefully at Duke University Medical Center on July 1, 2026, at age 65, surrounded by love and her family. Karla graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. She had a fulfilling 40-year career as a Physical Therapist working in a variety of clinical settings including hospital, home health, acute neurorehabilitation, and most recently in Duke’s Outpatient Cardio/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic. Upon her need to retire several years ago due to kidney failure, she often expressed how much she missed working as a Pulmonary Rehab therapist, and even had dreams about working. Those who had opportunity to work with Karla can attest to what a caring, smart, funny and devoted therapist, colleague and friend she was.
Karla overcame many obstacles in life including two kidney transplants, hip and shoulder replacements, and multiple other orthopedic injuries and surgeries. She handled them all with grace and quiet determination, and never let those things keep her from being there for her family and friends. She was always thinking about other people and what they might need. May her beautiful spirit rest in peace 😇
