Last week, Gina Upchurch had the tremendous privilege of introducing Rose Hoban the Founder and now Editor-in-Chief of NC Health News, who received the FHLI Community Achievement Award. Gina's comments were about Rose's passion for improving the health of North Carolinians and ensuring that real peoples' experiences are the center of the policy conversations. Rose's comments focused on the disappearance of local news and the moneyed interests driving advertising and what stories are told. Thanks to both NC Health News team - inspired by Rose's vision - and the Foundation for Health Leadership and Innovation that continues to make the vision of Jim Bernstein a reality, especially in the rural parts of North Carolina. Not good news for many who have struggled to afford branded medications in the US. Note that while we usually pay LOTS more for brand-name meds in the US; we often pay less for generics. Individual importation has been necessary for many Americas - and that is going to get much more costly - soon.
