"I only did one small thing today. It doesn't really count."
We hear some version of this a lot. But small steps are still steps. Progress doesn't have to look big to be real.

Getting out of bed on a hard day. Answering one email. Making the phone call you'd been putting off. These aren't failures to do more, they're evidence that you kept going.

The version of you that keeps showing up in small ways is still moving forward.

What's one small thing you did this week that counted more than you gave it credit for?

Anger doesn't always mean you should yell. Anxiety doesn't always mean danger is near. Sadness doesn't always mean something's wrong with your life.

Feelings are signals, not commands. They're worth noticing and taking seriously. But they don't have to be obeyed the moment they show up.

You can feel something fully and still choose how you respond to it.

What's a feeling you've learned to listen to without immediately acting on it?

We're glad to introduce Micki McCarthy, LCSWA, who is now accepting new clients at Greenwood.

Micki works with adults 18 and up, individually and in couples, offering both in-person sessions at our Chapel Hill office and telehealth across North Carolina. Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based, and she brings a steady commitment to anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma-informed care to every session.

Sometimes it's not one clear problem. It's a heaviness you can't quite name, a sense that something's off, a tiredness that doesn't have an obvious cause.

You don't need a diagnosis or the right words to reach out. "I don't feel like myself" is a reason enough. "Something feels off" is a reason enough.

Help doesn't require clarity first. Sometimes clarity comes after you've started talking.

Not all grief follows loss. Sometimes it follows change: a relationship that shifted, a person who isn't who they used to be, a version of someone you miss even though they're still here.

That grief counts too.

If this is something you're carrying, we're here when you're ready.

You don't have to earn rest.

So many of us were taught that rest is something you unlock after enough has been done, enough boxes checked, enough proof that you deserve to stop. But rest isn't a reward for exhaustion. It's a basic part of being human.

Your worth isn't measured by your output, and your body doesn't wait for permission to need care.

Sometimes the most honest thing you can do is rest before you've "earned" it, simply because you're tired.

What helped you rest this week?
