We’re already getting into the fall spirit at Carolina Reserve of Durham! Our residents had fun creating faux stained-glass paintings to decorate the community for the autumn season, choosing their designs and bringing them to life with color. Creative activities like this encourage imagination while bringing back fond memories of childhood and fall traditions.

Friday was filled with gooey, sticky fun! Our residents had a blast making Rice Krispie Treats with Genevieve, adding their favorite toppings and creating their own delicious treats. There was plenty of laughter, creativity, and marshmallow goodness to go around!

We had the sweetest visit from Yoda at Carolina Reserve! Our residents loved seeing this tiny bundle of cuteness stroll through the halls, bringing smiles, laughter, and plenty of joy along the way. Visits from furry friends are a wonderful reminder of how animals can bring comfort, spark memories, and brighten our residents’ day!

We’re creating a special Wall of Honor to recognize the veterans who are part of our community and family. If your loved one served in the armed forces, we would be honored to display their photo as a meaningful tribute to their service and sacrifice.

Today we celebrate National Senior Citizens Day and the incredible individuals who have shared a lifetime of stories, wisdom, and experiences. Our residents continue to inspire us with their kindness, strength, and the meaningful connections they create each day. We are honored to celebrate and cherish the generations of memories that make our community so special.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University! The dementia-informed tour encouraged everyone to slow down, notice the details, and work together to explore the meaning behind four works of art. Experiences like this connect residents with their interests and past experiences while encouraging conversation, curiosity, and meaningful engagement.

The Little River Cloggers brought an afternoon of music, movement, and Appalachian tradition to Carolina Reserve on August 11th. Our residents loved watching dancers of all ages perform, and it was especially meaningful to see younger generations helping preserve these traditions for years to come. Last week, we celebrated back-to-school season with a fun “School Photo Day” photo shoot! Our residents enjoyed reminiscing about their school days, favorite memories, and what it was like waiting in line for those annual school pictures. It was a wonderful way to spark conversation, laughter, and a little nostalgia together.

Our residents spent a few days working together to create a beautiful mosaic serving tray, carefully fitting each tile together like a puzzle. We love how it turned out, but even more, we loved the teamwork, creativity, and time spent together creating something special for our community.
