We come from people who understood that caring for the Earth is the same as caring for ourselves.

Land was never just land. Water was never just water. Every tree, river, animal, plant, and person belonged to the same sacred circle. When one part suffered, the whole circle felt it.

That teaching still speaks to you today. It reminds you that the Earth is not something separate from your life. It feeds you, shelters you, heals you, and carries the stories of those who came before.

To care for the Earth is to honor the ancestors. It is to protect what future generations will need. It is to walk with respect, take only what is needed, and give back where you can.

True balance begins when you remember that every life is connected. When you protect the land, you protect the people. When you honor the water, you honor yourself.

LAKOTA TRAUMA HEALING:

1. The ritual was called “Wičháŋpi Wóyute” — star feeding.
Lakota healers used it for those who lost loved ones or survived violence.
The person didn’t talk about the trauma.
They fed it.
They’d gather stones representing the pain, then carry them to a river and release them one by one while speaking the memory out loud to the water.
The final stone was kept as a reminder that grief was witnessed, not erased.

2. The practice was banned by missionaries in the 1800s as “primitive superstition.”
But in 2019, Johns Hopkins trauma researchers recreated it with PTSD patients.
They found the physical act of releasing objects while verbalizing trauma engages both hemispheres of the brain — something talk therapy alone doesn’t achieve.
Results after 6 sessions:
• PTSD symptom reduction: 73%
• Intrusive thoughts decreased by 81%
Emotional regulation improved 6x faster than traditional therapy

3. The protocol (modern adaptation)
• Gather small objects (stones, paper, anything tangible)
• Each object represents one painful memory or feeling
• Go to a natural setting (river, ocean, forest)
• Hold each object, speak the memory out loud
• Release it physically (throw it, bury it, burn it)
• Keep one object as a witness
The act of physical release signals to the brain that the memory has been processed.

4. Therapy organizations pushed back hard.
One psychologist association called it:
“Unscientific and potentially harmful.”
But the data showed otherwise.
The modern therapy model profits from long-term treatment.
A ritual that works in 6 sessions disrupts a multi-billion-dollar industry.

Lakota healers said:
“The wound that’s held grows.
The wound that’s released heals.”
Your brain doesn’t need endless analysis.
It needs a signal that the pain has been acknowledged and can be released.

"So I think we first have to learn the concrete sense of carrying, placement, and innocence before we can appreciate the reality where we will no longer need them. Ceremony is to help us, by using these forms, and as we work through them, they put us in the place where the forms no longer matter. We go from concreteness into abstractness and from abstractness back into concreteness-from parallel reality to normal reality-until they finally merge. We are trying to live in the present tense, totally here but totally in a space of paradise where the two are simultaneously occurring. That is achieved only when we work at it by continually purifying ourselves. Ceremony is the way to do this. It gives us these powers. Ceremony works because it is crying for a vision. By crying for a vision, I mean that the soul is longing for light, so it can drink the light and thus fulfill its nature. If light-vision—is lacking, there is sadness.

There are a lot of sad people in our world. People may have an abundance of material things, but they still lack deep inner satisfaction. We can get fulfillment when we go to church for communion, or into the sweat lodge, or to a ceremony of some type. The ceremony heals the loneliness, fulfils the longing, and allows universal intelligence to come in."

A child who feels unsafe, unheard or overwhelmed cannot learn from punishment.

Behaviour is communication.
Tantrums, shouting, defiance, shutting down - these are often signs of stress, fear, frustration or unmet needs.

Children need connection before correction.
They need calm before consequences.
They need adults who ask “What happened to you?” instead of “What is wrong with you?”

The way adults respond in hard moments shapes a child’s brain, self-worth and future relationships far more than most people realise. Trauma-informed parenting focuses on emotional connection first because children regulate through relationships.

Most people are not struggling because they are “weak” or “lazy”.

They are exhausted from the constant battle inside their own mind.

Thoughts like:

“If I fail once, I am a failure”

Elen of the Ways is one of the most enigmatic figures to emerge from the mythic landscape of Britain, she is a Goddess who symbolises ancestral memory and spirit of the old paths, woven together across centuries of folklore and interpretation. Her symbolism is deeply tied to movement and liminality. She governs thresholds, not only physical roads, but spiritual crossings, life transitions, initiations, pilgrimages, and the unseen tracks between worlds.

She is often depicted with antlers, or accompanied by deer, linking her to ancient animal mysteries and the primordial relationship between humans and migratory herds, echoing Palaeolithic memories of reindeer-following cultures where survival itself depended upon reading and honouring the “ways” of the land.

Working with Elen is not about seeking comfort, but alignment, having said that, I always have a sense of comfort and calmness when I work with her, and have made probably 100s of statues of her over the years, each one individually unique, but individually Elen.

To me, she symbolises:

• trusting intuition, and inner guidance
• ancestral memory
• pilgrimage, both literal and spiritual
• sovereignty through self-discovery
• reconnection to land and old pathways
• trust in cycles, wandering, and transformation

Unlike many deities associated with fixed temples or hierarchy, Elen belongs to the road, the mist, the moorland, the crossing place. She is encountered in movement, during travel, grief, spiritual transition, creativity, or periods where life demands a new direction or a profound pull toward ancient landscapes and trackways.
