Durham County EMS was proud to host a Basic Field Training Officer course from May 27-29, 2026. Eight field personnel from Durham County EMS, Orange Emergency Services, Guilford County EMS, Harnett County EMS and Iredell County EMS attended the course, which was taught by Division Chief Sara Houston and District Chief Max Patterson.

Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honorees are Paramedic Jenna Bajwa, Paramedic Greta Leitz-Najarian and EMT David Nguyen.

These providers showed great empathy and patience while treating and transporting a patient suffering from altered mental status in the heat. They spent over an hour on scene making sure the patient was safe, even ensuring that her dog was fed, given water and picked up by a relative.

Durham County EMS is pleased to welcome Kyle Ronn as the new EMS Quality Assurance Program Manager.

Kyle Brings more than 15 years of EMS experience and a strong background in quality improvement, performance measurement, and data-driven system development. His work has focused on helping EMS agencies strengthen clinical practice, evaluate performance, and implement improvements that support both patient care and operational excellence.

In his new role, Kyle will help advance Durham County’s commitment to continuous improvement by supporting quality assurance initiatives, performance analysis, and evidence-based decision-making across the EMS system.

Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honorees are Paramedic Darren Steadman and EMT Elijah Hall.

This crew recently responded to a patient who had fallen from a significant height and suffered a painful and serious leg injury. They slowly and methodically extricated the patient from the scene, making sure to balance preserving the patient’s neurological function and controlling their pain.
