Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honoree is EMT Dylon Cunha, nominated by his partner, EMT Kaz Moore.

Kaz writes, “As a BLS unit, EMT Dylon Cunha and I responded to a nursing home in reference to an agitated patient. Upon arrival, the patient was highly aggressive and attempting to fight with staff. Initially, the patient didn’t want anything to do with EMS and even attempted to grab and hit EMS while adamantly refusing to go to the hospital. EMT Cunha showed the utmost professionalism with the patient, family of the patient over the phone, and facility staff during a volatile situation.

EMT Cunha was able to build rapport with the patient after about 20 minutes and even assisted the patient in dressing himself. The patient ultimately willingly got onto the stretcher and allowed all vital signs to be obtained without issue, and the ride to the hospital was without any incident. He even thanked our crew for taking care of him at the end after we transferred care.”

Today is Save Sunday, where we recognize the medics, AEMTs and EMTs who were involved in cardiac arrests with sustained ROSC (return of spontaneous circulation) during the previous week. Great job everyone!

Please join us in congratulating EMT Whitney Pesce for successfully completing the FTEP process. She is now cleared for independent practice within the Durham County EMS system.

We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our FTOs, shift leadership, education staff, and FTEP coordinator in preparing her for independent practice. Special thanks to Cpl. Byrd, Cpl. Shaw, Sgt. Gezzar, Sgt. Grebe, Sgt. Patterson, and FTEP Coordinator Sara Houston for their contributions.

Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honorees are Paramedic Darren Steadman, Paramedic Drew Johnson, Paramedic Nizar Bejaoui, EMT Evan Owen and EMT Nadia Enoch.

Recently, these crews responded to two separate patients presenting with abnormal heart rhythms and complex cardiac histories. Rather than immediately treating the dysrhythmias with medication or cardioversion, the crews recognized the high risk of complications for these particular patients and chose to treat their symptoms with supportive measures, close monitoring, and consultations with hospital cardiologists. Both patients improved and stabilized with basic life support on the way to the hospital.
