Congratulations to Samantha Spellicy, MD, PhD, on joining The Lefkowitz Society!

The Lefkowitz Society comprises selected Duke Medicine post-graduate trainees with either an MD or MD/PhD dual degrees and a significant interest in pursuing a research-intensive academic career.

The Lefkowitz Society is named for Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD, Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology and recipient of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2012.

In his 40 years as a Duke researcher, Dr. Lefkowitz has mentored more than 200 trainees. He has embraced the opportunity to serve as a role model and informal mentor for members of the eponymous Lefkowitz Society.

How do memories become memories?

That's the question driving the work of Nanthia Suthana and her Duke Neurosurgery research team. Using wearable technology, they're studying memory during everyday life, helping scientists explore how the brain functions beyond the walls of a laboratory and uncovering insights that could one day improve care for people with neurological conditions.

It's a reminder that memories are more than snapshots of the past. They help shape who we are, connect us to the people we love, and guide us through the world. Understanding how they're formed could make a meaningful difference in people's lives.
