Many people are unfamiliar with aphasia, which is even more reason to highlight Aphasia Awareness Month.

• About 2 million Americans are living with aphasia, with around 180,000 diagnoses a year.
• Aphasia affects a person’s speech and language cognition abilities.
• It often occurs after a stroke or from progressive conditions like Alzheimer’s.
• Aphasia can impact anyone of any age, though older adults are most commonly affected.

Aphasia is sometimes mistaken for dementia, though individuals with aphasia retain memory and intellect but cannot express it. Visit the link in the comments if you’d like to learn more.

“Their sacrifice was the ultimate act of love for their country. May we always remember them.” — Unknown

This Memorial Day, our Lexington Pointe Senior Living community honors those who gave everything to secure the freedoms we enjoy. Take a moment to reflect on and remember these heroes—and live each day in a way that is worthy of their sacrifice.

Check out these photos of some of our Lexington Pointe residents who understood the assignment on Wear Purple Day. Rosi and Luella dressed in purple, and even their walkers were purple! Some of our dominoes players—Elisabeth, Peggy, Marie, and Jerry—also wore purple.

Did you know? Wear Purple Day is an international effort that encourages people to wear purple clothing and accessories in support of epilepsy awareness. One in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime.

On April 22, we did our part for the betterment of the planet and our community. Some of the Lexington Pointe volunteers picked up trash in support of Earth Day. Students from All Seasons Preschool also helped with the Earth Day cleanup efforts.

The temperature was 81 degrees and the wind was gusty, but it was a nice day to be outside.

Each year during the Masters Tournament, our Lexington Pointe community hosts a unique and fun Shoe Golf activity. Residents play six holes, with two par 3s and four par 4s. On Jerry S.’s first shot, he made a hole in one!

We designed the course across our community room, fitness room, theater, and library. And it’s complete with trees, water hazards, and sand traps—just like the real thing! Each tee box is named either for the room it’s in or after a well-known brand of shoe. “Schwarzenegger” was the name of the fitness room hole, and “Oscar” was the hole in the movie theater.

Jerry S. had the best overall score, and Jane J. won the longest drive on hole 6, in the community’s library.

Residents enjoyed the competition and sharing lots of laughs. Thank you to Activities Coordinator Lily and family volunteers Leah, Lori, and Dennis for making this activity possible.

Students from All Seasons Preschool recently performed a play for residents at Lexington Pointe. These senior-student connections are special ones, and both groups welcome every opportunity to participate in enriching activities like this.

The students did a great job and got a very deserving round of applause from our residents!

In early April, we hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for residents in our Lexington Pointe community.

Congratulations to Darlene V., who found the golden egg, which was very difficult to find this year; and Terri O., who found our hidden tulip bouquet. Each was awarded a special prize.

Thanks to all our residents who participated!
