Feeding disorders are more than “picky eating.” They can involve challenges with sensory processing, motor skills, mealtime routines, and emotional regulation. With the right support, children can build positive, confident relationships with food.

Children can develop feeding disorders for many different reasons. Some children experience sensory processing differences or oral motor and coordination challenges that make eating feel hard. Others may have a medical history or early feeding experiences that impact how they approach food. Anxiety around meals, stress, and difficulty with routines or transitions can also play a role in feeding challenges.

Mealtime challenges are often a sign a child needs support—not pressure. Feeding therapy focuses on understanding the why behind eating difficulties and helping children feel safe and successful with food.

Mealtime challenges often show up long before a child takes a bite. Feeding disorders can impact how a child tolerates the sights, smells, textures, and routines of eating. Therapy focuses on supporting regulation, comfort, and skill-building—meeting children where they are.
