The school year is underway, routines are becoming familiar, and the excitement of a new beginning may be starting to settle. As we wrap up August, this is a great time to pause and check in.

For students, families, and educators, the first few weeks of school can bring academic pressure, busy schedules, social challenges, and stress. Taking care of our mental health and learning healthy ways to cope can make a difference.

This week, we encourage our community to:

💬 Check in with someone and ask how they’re really doing
🧠 Practice healthy ways to manage stress
🤝 Stay connected to supportive friends, family, and trusted adults
🚫 Avoid turning to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope with pressure or emotions
💛 Reach out for help before challenges become overwhelming

As August comes to a close, let’s continue building a school year—and a community—where mental wellness matters, healthy choices are encouraged, and no one has to struggle alone.

The first week of school is already underway! New classes, new routines, new expectations—and for some students, new stress and pressure.

As the excitement of the first days settles in, let’s remember that mental health is part of being successful at school, too.

This week, encourage our youth to:

💬 Talk about how they’re feeling—not just how their day went.
🤝 Surround themselves with positive people and supportive friends.
🧠 Find healthy ways to manage stress and pressure.
🚫 Know that they never have to use drugs or alcohol to fit in or cope.
❤️ Ask for help when things feel overwhelming.

Parents, caregivers, educators, and community members: a simple check-in can open the door to a much-needed conversation. Prevention starts with connection, awareness, and support.

At SCAN, we’re here to support our community through:

✅ Substance use prevention & intervention
✅ Mental health education and resources
✅ Referrals and community resources
✅ A safe, confidential, judgment-free environment

Let’s help our students start this school year knowing that they are supported, they have choices, and they don’t have to face challenges alone. 💛

As summer comes to an end and a new school year approaches, many students and families are preparing for backpacks, school supplies, and new routines. But let’s not forget one of the most important back-to-school essentials: our mental health.

A new school year can bring excitement, but it can also bring stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. Taking care of our emotional well-being helps us make healthy choices and builds resilience during times of change.

This week, we encourage families to:
💬 Talk openly about feelings and expectations for the new school year.
🎒 Help students establish healthy routines before school begins.
💙 Encourage positive coping skills when facing stress or peer pressure.
🤝 Remind children and teens that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Let’s work together to ensure every student begins the school year with confidence, support, and the tools to make healthy choices.
